Accidents Happen: A Poem
TaJuan is an aspiring writer hoping to gain experience and growth through publishing passionate works, like this one, online for the world.
It was an accident,
To approach you,
And ask for your number.
And, under normal circumstances,
I wouldn’t have,
But you were different:
Messy hair when everyone else’s was straightened,
Glasses where contacts were the norm,
Shorter than the rest,
But that didn’t bother you any,
Skin on the paler side,
Some pimples for the world to see,
And a smile brighter than the sun.
It was an accident,
But I’m glad I did it.
It was an accident,
To go out to coffee.
And, under normal circumstances,
I wouldn’t have.
Coffee is always too hot
Or too cold.
It either makes me too jittery
Or doesn’t hit me at all.
Expensive or cheap,
Either way,
It never tastes the price paid.
However, you were there with me.
It was an accident,
But I’m glad I did it.
It was an accident,
To fall in love with you.
Love
Frightens me.
It always feels like
A time bomb
Waiting to end a once beautiful friendship.
Hearts become shattered
As if it was their natural form,
And it’s this fear,
This tolling fear,
Is why I don’t fall in love.
Then you came along,
And I made accident after accident,
Mistake after mistake,
And now I’ve made another.
And, for some reason,
Some odd reason,
I’m glad I did.
