Love and Other Cliches
He said "You deserve someone better."
And with that he left her for another
She said "It's your loss, not mine."
But she always cried a river at night
Some say "There are plenty of fish in the sea."
She'll catch one if she would only go out there and see
But others tell her "Love comes when you least expect it
Let him find you, the one you're destined to be with."
"Everything happens for a reason" she constantly told herself
As she carried on with life declining some other man's offered help
She's not someone who'd so easily warm up and open her heart to another
Just so she could redeem her pride and make herself feel better
"You'll forget him soon", she had been so told
Because "time", they say, "heals all wounds"
But it took her forever and a day
To get back up again with dignity
She needed time to "find herself"
Empty, that's how she felt
So she left to find a renewed sense of purpose
And for some self-love on a much bigger dose
Now she's stronger more than ever
Her happiness no longer depends on others
The scars, they still remain, and they'll always be
A reminder of how she managed to finally break free

Thank you!
Tim Truzy from U.S.A. on March 17, 2019:
Wonderful poem about love's forever present repeating lines. This poem strikes at the heart of truth because love is written with so many emotional lines which every soul on Earth must act out to some degree in the dramatic production of life.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Tim
