Shelter Dog

Since the moment I held a pencil I've been creating with drawings and words. I believe paintings enlighten and poems entice our audiences.

When you look in the eyes of a shelter dog there's a magic that's found in the love they want to share with you. When you give a shelter dog a home you'll get back endless appreciation from your new friend.

A Sweet Bulldog

SHELTER DOG

There he sat, the littlest of three

Eyes dancing over concern

Chihuahua’s barking big and strong

But he sat, as if to make his plea

Take me home and set me free

Give me life

I’ll share with glee

Take away my strife

Give me a name

I’ll smile at thee

Be it all the same

Numbers are lame

Take my big tag off

Number seven-eighty-two

Watch me jump high to soar

Pick me, love me, and I’m all yours.

Hi Lora. Thank you for the nice comments and I agree all pets should come from the shelter. All my dogs have come from shelters too.

A very nice poem, Mary! We should all adopt shelter dogs or those in need of rescue. All my pets came from shelters. And they have all been wonderful companions. My present dog is no exception and she has such a wonderful personality. She’s all about love and having a good time. I also love your painting. You’ve managed to capture the look that so many have on their faces as they plead for someone to take them home. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Lora.

As always, thank you Lorna for your comments and the time you take to write them. There's hope in every dog and that's what makes them special. You got it.

All our dogs have been shelter dogs and they are very special. Your poem is exactly how I imagine they would feel and it touched my heart. I love your painting Mary, you have captured that look of hope in the eyes of this cute doggy.
