A Word to the Critics

TaJuan is an aspiring writer hoping to gain experience and growth through publishing passionate works, like this one, online for the world.

though I think my poems are the cleanest

critics are always the meanest

trying to leech your

inner worth

making you question your spot on planet Earth

because if you can’t do what you're passionate about right

what good are you?

might, I say

i thought they were beyond adequate

now I’ll madly quit

the poetry game

and the critics are to blame

too critical

these critics full

of sugar honey ice tea

for they don’t like when i write about

my future sugar honey, I plead

for some positive commentary

now i am suffocating in this common wary

feeling called anxiety

telling me

i am not good enough

true enough

i listen

because the critics reinforce the negativity

as if it’s their mission

to snub my bright future

the vision

of a young wannabe poet

who knows this

path isn’t going to be easy

lemons squeezed

into my eyes

by the critics and their rejection

without advice or corrections

leaving dejection

pale goes my complexion

when i read:

“sorry, it’s just not what we are looking for,”

as if i could give them any more

as I send my blood sweat and tears

my dreary, dark, and drug filled nightmares

and my sheer

joyous times

prose or baller rhymes

this is a crime

unjust judges

i won’t hold grudges

i’m just speaking out of hurt

i’ll keep on writing

new ideas i’ll birth

until one day

i’m acknowledged

is not something that can be determined by someone else

so follow your passion

and love yourself
