A Shaky Rock

I've more than glanced through it
I've loved just enough because of it
I try to remember most what I know of it
But it said I would fail in spite of it

Did it say I can't dance in the street
Stop shaving or not watch what I eat
I can't put much distance beneath my feet
But I'm thinking of a rock named Pete

Don't judge the son of the son of the south
One is sorry the other with anger in his mouth
I don't need old flags or statues for me to doubt
Where was God, it's hard at times to be devout

People are afraid, we don't always know why
I won't philosophize or dismiss when they cry
Anger is not just hurt, it's also because they lie
Or is it because the truth never was a blue sky?
