My Lily Flower ~

When I was down, you came to me.
True knight disguised in pure sunlight.
Reaching out, you gave me your hand,
And without asking: covered me with a shield you never knew you had.

When I was up, you looked at me.
Beaming, with an honest smile brighter than stars.
I gave you my strength and pulled you up with me,
And without asking: you stood by my side.

When I was here, and you were there,
The world was much bigger, and a scary place to dwell.
But when we met, you seized rightful place,
And without asking: you'll follow me into the very pits of Hell.

Once united, we realized:
If I stand there where you stand,
We'll conquer the planet with just one hand.
And without asking: therefore we became best friends.

So I'd die for you, and live for you.
And you would do the same for me.
So, thank you, God, for bringing us here
And without asking: showing us the power of camaraderie.

- A Poet in Attempt

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.”

— Muhammad Ali

~ About the Poem

There are countless forms of love in this world. We love our parents and our partners. We love our children and our cousins. We love our jobs and our pets. We love random strangers and our neighbors. We love music, and we love nature, and different kinds of activities, arts, and beings. We love an indefinite number of things. And we love our true friends. They are the ones who shine bright when all our lights die. We hold each other's hands through life blindly and unambiguously. The real ones are siblings we never had.

Sometimes, we write them poems. Because sometimes, that's something they need.

This one is dedicated to my best friend and adopted sister. I had a feeling she could be in need of this gift. For she was a gift of my own from the day she entered my life.
