A Poem about Self-Encouragement

Many Have Failed Before Me

Everyone told me, my feet were not ready
My strides are too short
My lungs can’t make the climb
And my chest is too heavy

Many have failed before me
And they told me that I would be next.
I only have Faith
And it's not enough, for a treacherous trek

Yes, they may be right
I am not blessed
With the intellect
That can build ships that fly
And my biceps are not strong enough
To lift my reputation up high

But what I have learned from years of accepting their judgment
I do not need society’s approval to ACT
To take the challenge
Create my future
I only need myself to establish a statement

That I am able
That I can reach my dream
That I can free myself of doubt
That I can be who I want to be

I do respect the crowds around me
The gossiping tongues that belittle and judge me
Trying to keep me down
But they can’t hold me
My will determines my fate
I learned to follow
But now I will lead the way

Within me, I know it will not be easy
I know, that I will get bruises and cuts
It will be painful
The path is long, because in progress
There are no shortcuts

So doubt me if you want to
Leave your discouragements at my doorstep
And while you're so busy looking for my faults
I am busy working on my success
