Going, Going, Here!

For now and forever,

through storm and drought,

through valleys and across peaks,

our love will endure because of you.

I could have wandered far afield,

become lost in forests dark and dank,

or wandered endless caves and rushing torrents,

save it were for you and your endless love.

Now resting secure in our earned old age,

you beside me as you determined to be,

I see those errant paths you saved me from,

you, your smiles, hugs, and tears, marked the way that has led us here.

Our children questioned and learned from you

the depths of endless love's endurance.

They found there is a higher path

which leads to vistas high above life's clouds.

One day, when we are gone and they are left

to wonder, wrestle, and recall

the light you shared, so bright and clear,

can lead them safely through it all.

Not a life wasted, surely not,

though noble paths there were you might have chosen,

you trod the path your parents trod,

and kept the truths grandparents lived.

There are truths of lasting value;

truths which never change.

God espoused them to listening ears

so long ago in tomorrow's yesterdays.

Thankful I am that God led me to my wife in Laos, and that our faith believes that we being "sealed on earth" are "sealed in heaven." (He. 10:7) Who in their right mind would ever want something so good to end just because our mortal selves go the way of all flesh?

Yeah, one of my recent poems is. But unlike yours, which is something very personal, mine is more of an observation about the increasing complexities of being worthy and accepted. :)

Generally the poems I write here on HubPages are part and parcel of my greeting card messages. I love when people come back and say that they find these messages helpful for expressing themselves.

I lost my husband in August. Now I am taking the rest of the journey completely alone. Wanting desperately to return to the states I have come against another alone kind of feeling. My closest and dearest are afraid if I do wander back I will become a burden on them. So it might be interesting what I will get to inspire on the streets somewhere in the states. That of course will still be a long time before I get so far but here I will not stay. Just saying since we haven't exchanged words in so long.

      Dear Rasma,

We believe that "What is bound on earth [by ordained authority] is bound in heaven." May you and your husband make it so. D.

      Dear Savvy Yves,

I was hoping someone would sense the love and the gratitude I feel toward my wife. Thanks for making it happen as relates here. It's my thanks to her for making it happen in our life together. Love, D.

Is this a poem for your wife? It's truly lovely. You might be surprised to know that one of my hubs gets a lot of hate mail from men who hate women. So when I read something like this, it reminds me of men who have chosen love. Thank you for that. And thanks to your wife for setting you straight now and again! Your poem is inspirational.
