'Nothing' Other Than a Word Prompt

Fellow writer, poet, and friend, Brenda Arledge, is once again responsible for providing a word prompt that I couldn't resist writing a response to. This week's word prompt might sound like 'Nothing' and it is(see Brenda's article: Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 55.)

I often have times when I can think of nothing to write about, so it is good to actually be able to do that. I'm not sure if that makes much sense, but these poems are my attempt.

I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about.

— Oscar Wilde

A Poem About Nothing

Nothing is beyond me, if I strive I’ll succeed,

It is all or nothing, there is no in-between.

There is nothing to see, there is nothing to do,

There is nothing I have, that I won’t give to you.

Nothing really bothers me, and what if it did?

I had nothing but love when I was just a kid.

I’m frightened of nothing, I was fearless from birth,

There’s nothing to stop me from travelling the Earth.

Although I have nothing, no vast riches or fame,

And if I am nothing, I have no one to blame.

When you have everything, there’s so much to lose,

But if you have nothing, life is an upward cruise.

Nothing will ever sway me from what I believe,

And standing for nothing I just cannot conceive.

I don’t have much money, but there’s nothing I need,

Money cannot buy love, and it just causes greed.

I’d rather have nothing, and be happy with that,

And the love of family, my dog and my cats.

Writing About Nothing

If I say I wish for nothing

Will you grant my every wish?

I will return with nothing

If I go out catching fish.

If I say I went to Nothing,

Would you also want to go?

If I concentrate on nothing

Will my mind just overflow?

If I’m writing about nothing

How does my word-count grow?

Half the world is composed of people who have something to say and can't, and the other half who have nothing to say and keep on saying it.

— Robert Frost

We can know only that we know nothing. And that is the highest degree of human wisdom.

— Leo Tolstoy ~ War and Peace

NOTHING ~ An Acrostic

Never be discouraged

Only take the things you need

Try to always be generous

Help others who’re in need

Imagine the world is a wonderful place

Never give up your life’s dreams

God gives you His amazing grace

With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt.

— Zig Ziglar

The Nothing Song

There’s nothing to say

You’ve done nothing wrong

And nothing exists

That’s not in a song

Always ask yourself: "What will happen if I say nothing?
