A Man A Gun A Bullet A Rose

a-man-a-gun-a-bullet-a-rose

The sun, the moon, the planets, the stars
Men and women, guns and bars
Same old story, another town
Lots of sorrow for booze to drown
A man, a woman, another man
Bill, the woman Maria, and Stan
A woman, a pen, a letter, a tear
A man, a stool, the bar, a beer
And on and on, it goes and goes
A man, a gun, a bullet, a rose

A closed looped thread, and hydrogen atoms
Men and women, Eves and Adams
Atoms and ropes, a single thread
A man a gun, a woman dead
Through it all it weaves and winds
A single thread, a tie that binds
A single word that's harshly spoken
A dozen lies, a heart that's broken
And on and on, it goes and goes
A man, a gun, a bullet, a rose

Atoms forming steel and gun powder
The sea, the fish, the clam, the chowder
The ocean, the beach, the rocky shore
A picnic basket, who could ask for more?
Maria and Bill, and suntan lotion
A perfect day down by the ocean
The ocean waves and prides did swell
It could be worse, but who can tell?
And on and on, it goes and goes
A man, a gun, a bullet, a rose

Hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon
Estrogen, testosterone, another man's son
A single thing is all she did
A single night, someone else's kid
Through it all it weaves and winds
A single thread, a tie that binds
A single thread that can't be broken
A dozen lies, a harsh word spoken
And on and on, it goes and goes
A man, a gun, a bullet, a rose

A single thread that weaves all ropes
That binds us all, our dreams, our hopes
It binds our hearts, but not our hands
We make our beds, we take our stands
The thread that weaves the universal net
Connects us all, and better yet
We choose in whose bed we lie
How we live, but not how we die
And on and on, it goes and goes
A man, a gun, a bullet, a rose
