How could someone
They could try to
Take over your soul
Who you remembered
That you were
Bit by bit
They can swallow
Each part of you
What you knew
What you loved
What gave you strength
Then you are
A ghost of
Who you once were
Only a trace of
A memory is left
You are left
A prisoner inside
Without a voice
Without your soul
Even the mirror
Can tell you lies
Of who you
Who you give
Your heart to

Caroline - it’s lyrical; it’s wonderful, it could very easily be a song. I really love the rhythm of it. Wonderfully sad and contemplative, it brings the reader along and takes them to a very personal time in their own life. Quite moving...well done.

This nearly brought me to tears, though I don't apply this poem to giving my heart away to someone romantically but to my own family. I'm still not sure I understand who I am, but I strive every day to know what it is to own the self.
Wonderful, thought-provoking poem!

I can sense the despair within the lines. Very expressive and beautifully written.

Lyrically portrayed the very truth of constantly being deceived. Loved the flow.
