Friend With a Price Tag: A Political Poem

Val is a life-long practically oriented student of effective emotional and attitudinal responses to the many challenges of life.

In this world of prestige and greed

with values being in second place

the last thing you may ever need

is the friend with whom you race.

Advantage hidden in friendly smile

lowering you down to an underdog

with years of both-sided extra mile

disappearing fast like in a thick fog.

When friendship is based on conditions

setting for itself some high price tagging

we don't feed such a "friend"'s ambitions

to play a dog appeasing with tail wagging.

No friend is the only fish in the whole sea

those with same values attract one another

friendship is meant to be both-sided and free

and with a selfish friend no one wants to bother.

It must be a lonely life

secluded in an ivory tower

rejecting all friends in greedy strife

to secure illusive and backfiring power.

Delilah---The deeper your soul, the harder you may find such spiritual clone in whose company you feel great even if you hardly exchange any words.

Well, we don't get dealt those best cards to play with in life---so maybe that's why we so often play Solitaire with the full deck.

Just like minded people who enjoy each others company and are not looking for any gain other than real friendship, that's sometimes hard to find. (from my personal experience)

Dana---I have been there, with quite a few who just didn't fit into my life but somehow dragged along for more years than I care to remember.

It's funny I stumbled upon this poem. Lately, I had been taking a long look at the people I call "friends" some of them I wonder what I saw in them in the first place.
