The Gift of Love and Gratitude

A Christmas Gift

I look to the perennial sky for answers,

Not knowing that life is a GPS, longing

To ride the Carousel of my soul’s brilliance.

I worry about big words like the ‘afterlife’,

But hope lies in my ability to ascend, in order

To arrive at the pinnacle-summit of Love’s mountain.

I quarrel about a label called ‘God.’, but isn’t my

Heart a beautiful vase, longing to shine with flowers?

Just this morning, my friend said that he was an atheist,

Yet he writes elegant letters to his daughter,

Whispering in the pages, of how much he loves her.

He writes inspirational poetry that brings solace to hundreds;

So, I say that what he has done with the eloquence of words, is

A victory for Peace and the beauty of a new and radiant dawn.

Beliefs, beliefs … beliefs. We deny both God and festivities,

Yet gratitude creeps into each Heart at ‘feel good’ moments.

Is it in extra hours at work,’ cause our friend has decided

To celebrate? Or is it in the jollity on buses and trains?

Is it in the amazing street lights and chiming bells, or

The sweet cuddle with family at home, that may otherwise

Not be possible. We look to the sky for answers, yet

Our Heart knows more than a thousand ways to worship!

I am a unique note on the chords of Love's symphony; bless me

Great Spirit! Send me Your pilot-flames, so I can find my way HOME.

Rumi's Teachings

“I searched for God and found only myself;

I searched for the ‘Self’ and found only God.” – Rumi

“I searched for God on the Christian cross,” says Rumi, but he was not there. I searched for Him in the old Jewish Synagogue, but He was not there also.

“I went to the ancient temples of idolatry; without success.
I entered the mountain cave of Hira and found Him not.
I directed my search to the Kaaba, He was not there either.
I enquired of the philosophers, but he was not within their range.
I fared no better, even in exalted palaces.
Finally, I looked into my own Heart and there I saw Him.”

– Paraphrased from the writings of the Mystic Jalal Uddin Mohammed Rumi

Celebration and the Heart

The Heart … the Heart is everything! Say the mystics. It is with me at Christmas and in the glow of the celestial grandeur, it is with me when Magi’s walk the Eastern Path to the sacred child, born in a stable in Bethlehem of Judea.

I see His inner beauty with my soul, His concern for mankind, His power of authority and sacrifice … but above all, I know that He loves me, because He sees that the same Light inside Him, dwells also in me … that I am a spiritual being; have a right to be here.

So, I celebrate. I celebrate His life and victory –the Path He paved for Love, mercy and goodness, bleeding with the Light of Paradise glowing within, to reveal a Truth, which so many refuses to acknowledge!

It is fine to believe in Buddha, Mohammed, Krishna and many more. Yet, it still begs the question: Is my Heart ready? Do I feel that Light when I kiss my kids, my wife or husband … my paramour? Am I courageous in the heat of Covid-19? Do I smell the fragrant roses and is my Heart so vast, that I never tire to serve my fellow brothers and sisters: mankind?

Daniel was thrown into a den of lions, but You entered the Lair, carrying the sceptre of a new Jerusalem. Joseph was thrown into a well, but Your light shone in his Heart and the Spirit directed his Path to a life of deliverance for others.

Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into a cauldron of fire, but You danced in the burning flames, delivering them from the shadow of death. What is impossible in a life of harmony and Love for You?

Christmas comes and carries the Light of the voice of Gratitude. I have a home, shelter, food and warmth, while some are dead or dying here and in foreign lands. It is right that I celebrate! Let me be grateful … to offer thankfulness to the Unseen who guides me with infinite compassion, forgiving my daily cobwebs, in order to give me the vibrancy and zeal of new life.

True. Love is synonymous with Light and Light with Love. Guruji sees it and speaks of it all the time. Light awakens, illumines, transforms, enlightens ... and so forth. Again, Guruji teaches that of all the divine qualities, Light is needed most but wanted least, because humans are afraid of Light.

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on December 06, 2020:

Manatita, you have warmed my heart; what a beautiful gift to open this day. I often feel unworthy of the blessings our God has bestowed on me, yet He continues to show me His love each and every day.

This life is an amazing, wondrous (and sometimes baffling) journey but love is there, always there, if we just open our hearts to receive it.

Thank you for this; your friendship is indeed a blessing to me.

George Fox of the Society of Friends often referred to "the light of God in every man". There is something that draws beauty and grace out of the bleakness of the world.

Manatita44,

These are lovely. Inspiration that is needed at this time of year.

I wonder often if I am worthy. I find myself weak in the face of this Covid-19 not being as peaceful as God would desire my heart to be.

We are filled with sadness but we must celebrate.

May his love unite us all this year regardless of what religion we worship.

Take care my friend.
