The Not So Enchanting Soliloquy
Warning: Not the enchanting soliloquy
You had expected from me
Wasn't planning on sharing this,
but I suppose if you don't tell my acquaintances and family,
it'll be all good
in the 21st century hood.
Some comic relief, some beef.
Whitman influenced in the beginning for sure,
but quickly taking a terrible Orwellian
left turn, and then straight into 1984
No Such Thing as a 21st Century Sufi
I was a product of my surroundings
My parents and family, my home town,
this city, my teachers, acquaintances, and coworkers
news papers, media and music
Of the 21st century
ADVERTISMENTS - WE GOT WHAT YOU NEED - BRAIN WASH JUICE!!
Buy this or that to find happiness
Hoard this much or that much cash
Later on you buy a truck, a camper and a boat
purchase expensive pants and an exotic coat
While living the last 20 years of your life in perfect luxury
SAVE --- SAVE --- SAVE!!
BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!
Yet, how will you save your own soul?
none of these people are awake
And they keep shouting at me to go back to sleep too
Can't they see that I have them in my view
Everything is a Kodak moment for me
How they talk, what they talk about, their dreams
Who they hang out with and what they do
Running around like headless chickens,
busy busy watching TV
UPTO 90% OFF - EVERYTHING MUST GO!!
They ask me about long term plans
Well...I ask myself that too
Their long term plans focus on retirement
Mine teeter-totter on the precipice of the
Hereafter, Eternity and Enlightenment
A life of solitude, God to keep me company
My days consist of inner peace,
My only goal involves elevation of my soul
Swimming in the Divine Sea of The Holy
How can blind men give advice to one who can see
How can the walking dead help the living
I keep my mouth shut, may they do and say as they please
Their words are like ants punching a mountain
This is my song, from the heart of a 21st century Sufi
