Shining in The Glory of God.The earth is the Lord and the fullness thereof. We have no made ourselves but are the image of something greater
I can’t begin to tell you how much praying has helped me in my very own life. I can attest that I am a person who strongly believes in praying. Praying not just when things are at its worst, but also praying when things are good. This is my story, a story of how prayer helped me in a very difficult time. A time when I was at my worst and death was possible in sickness.
One day after I had dinner at home I felt a sudden bloating in my stomach. I ignored it for a few days thinking it was just gas and it would go away. But it lingered on. I eventually went to my private doctor who diagnosed me for a distended stomach. He gave me a few medication and sent me back home.. The thing is those medications never worked and in a weeks’ time I was back at the doctor explaining that the medications given did not work. I was feeling filled after just having some small meals and I began to throw up constantly. I revisited the medical institution but this time I saw a different doctor who examined the abdomen and found a pulse in the upper abdomen. He was concerned about the pulse that it could be aneurysm. He then ordered me to do a CT scan. The results of the scan were very concerning as a huge mass measuring over 9 cm by 4 cm was found near the pancreas at the back of the abdomen. There were was another mass in the left side of the stomach, the doctor immediately referred me to a surgical unit to have the mass diagnosed further. After visiting the surgical unit at the hospital, the doctor who examined me told me that he must place me on ward so they can do further test and examinations. I was scared and worried at the time because no one could determine what the mass was without deeper diagnostics.
Biopsy On Ward
While on ward, I had to do a biopsy. This is like a minor surgery as the doctor used a long needle to insert into the stomach to take sample of the tissue mass to determine what it was and what it stemmed from. The Biopsy was competed and the tissue sample sent to the Pathologist. I was then sent home but had to return on ward because I start vomiting continuously. I was vomiting g at least four times per day and I was losing weight fast and could not tolerate any solid foods. I was onward feeding on IV fluid, then the results from the Biopsy came in. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This was the first I have ever heard about such a disease, so I began to do extensive research about this illness and the best option for treatment. My wife was with me all the way, she bore strength I had never seen in the time of illness. The surgery doctors then recommended that the disease be treated with chemotherapy pending an analysis of my overall health. I was very worried, worried that I may die and not see my little girl and boy grow and marry and have grand kids. Worried that I will leave my wife and she won’t be able to cope by herself.
But while in hospital, some marvelous things occurred that has never happened in my entire life while i was well. The prayers came in flooding. My wife was always a prayer warrior. Even before I became ill she prayed a lot. She prayed for covering of our family, health and prosperity of friends, family and many times strangers. My wife prayed, and prayed some more. She prayed with olive oil which she used to massage the stomach. Prayers came in from families I have never seen in years, I received scriptures for healing from co-workers and long-time friends who lived thousands of miles away.
But the most touching prayer I ever received that I felt to the core was from another patient on ward. Yes, that’s right. The sick praying for the sick. While onward, a male looking like he was in his thirty’s came in for head injury. He had met in an accident and had a slight bleeding from the brain. He was not in pain or seemed to be ill, but he had on and off headaches and the doctors had recommended surgery to drain the blood. One day the man had some family that came to visit, they were in very good spirit and I could just sense a genuine goodness in them as they surrounded him. They laughed and talked with him and I just sat laid their and listened. Then before they left they started to pray. They started to bring the spirit of the Holy Ghost right there in the hospital. I could feel the energy of the prayer as they prayed and anointed his feet and head with olive oil. They asked for healing and protection. I felt as though even though they were praying for him, the words were for me. I began to cry as the word of healing ran through my body. Then they did something unexpected. One of the ladies came over to my bed and said that she sensed something about me and God wants me. He wants me to live and be his testament of healing. Then they all came over to my bed and began to pray. I was overwhelmed by the power of the prayer. I felt healed. I felt one hundred times better than how I felt before the healing prayer.
Healing Bible Scriptures
The Bible is a good source of scriptures which support healing. Healing of the mind, spirit and body. These scriptures are to be said daily as I did while in the hospital with my ailment. They alongside prayers from many people empowered my mind and healed my body. It is written;
- "Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." ~ Jeremiah 17:14
- "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven." ~ James 5:14-15
- "He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.” ~ Exodus 15:26
There are many scriptures in the Bible which support health and healing. These are just a few.
While on ward, I did the first of six recommended Chemotherapy. Before the therapy began, I prayed that my body reacts well to the poison being pumped in my veins. I prayed that God had already started working on the tumor and prayed that he guided the hands and minds of the doctor. And behold the Lord did work. After the third treatment, I was cancer free. I prayed and thanked God for blessing me with more life, I prayed and thanked him for healing and I prayed for healing of all patients on ward who many were staring death right in the face.
No matter what your situation is, no matter how difficult your status is at the moment. Once you pray and believe in the power of the prayer your situation can change. But change comes with strong faith in the word and a persistent belief.
