Thankful For This Life

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"I've Got Plenty To Be Thankful For" by Bing Cosby

When She Had Doubts

She is delighted to wake up to this day, Thanksgiving.
There was a time when she had her doubts. Last year she faced Gamma Knife Surgery to stop the growth or shrink a tumor in her brain a month before Thanksgiving.
Almost nine months before she had RF ablation surgery to fix SVT (super ventricular tachycardia).

Life Throws Curve Balls

It seems like her life is never short on obstacles. Life seems to throw her curve balls when she least expects them.
Her latest one was having to find a new home when her live-in relationship ended.
Although she has suffered many setbacks, she has made it through them all.
She believes those who deal with life altering decisions are the same ones who are dealt the worst hands in life. She assumes it’s God’s way of keeping them strong.

Wanting A Refreshing Change

She is tired of dealing with problems, tired of being sick, tired of so many things and feels she is plenty strong enough. She does not need any more lessons, it is time for a break.
She wants to wake up one morning with a normal life. To experience things like the alarm not going off and rushing off to work.
Or deciding what to watch on television, or taking a nap for no reason at all.
To choose what color purse to wear with her shoes or what color to paint her fingernails.
She wants a refreshing change. She wants to only worry about the little things in life.

Wants To Remove The Mask

She wants to remove her mask. She no longer wishes to pretend everything is fine. She wants to cry, to laugh, to take chances without worrying about others knowing anything is wrong. Or if they do know - not to run the other way treating her like she is broken glass.
It is difficult though for her to be like others, for her views on life are different. She believes one should live in the moment making the most of each day.
Some people decipher this way of thinking as being gloom and doom constantly worrying about what might happen.
Nothing could be further from the truth. She plans on living a long and wonderful life. She just wants to smile each day being as happy as possible because yes, no one really knows when their time is up.
She finds this to be true not only in life, but with friendships, family and romantic partnerships too.

Being Thankful

She continues to follow her dreams. She does her best in everything she attempts. She is thankful for things that others take for granted, like the ability to walk or see a sunset.
Today she is thankful for this life she has been given. She is thankful for having a roof over her head and food to eat. She is thankful she can walk without a walker and still has the ability to drive her car. She is thankful she can live alone.
Sure she has moments of sadness when she thinks back. It tears her heart apart remembering lost friendships and romantic interests. She finds herself wishing this day was like others before when she shared it with her significant other, but that ship has sailed.
Today she is thankful for all life has given her, the good and the bad. She is content to accept this day feeling blessed to begin a new chapter in her life.

Lynne,

Thank you so much!

I am glad you are learning from someone who is dealing with problems, she sounds like she is strong.

Delighted to hear you think this is a good read.

Thank you.

She's a very strong woman, to carry such burdens yet still be full of hope and perseverance.

I know someone like this right now, dealing with a disease but having such faith in God and doing good deeds in life. I learn a lot from her.

This is wonderful to read, so encouraging.

Kari,

Thank you for your heartfelt comment. There are days one does not feel strong, as I am certain you are aware.

Accepting the new normal is unfortunately part of this path...but it does not stop one from wanting just One Normal Day.

I am delighted in our "new normal" kinda way to hear you understand, feeling sadness that you do.

Thank you so much Kari.

You are a strong woman! I think I know what you are going through. This could have been written about me. I'm with you in wanting a normal day, but I have to accept this is my new normal.

Lorna,

I appreciate you reading this article and leaving a kind, caring response.

There were two videos, but I am certain you are referring to the motivational one. I liked that one too!

Thank you again!

Sometimes it is not always easy to feel thankful particularly if you are constantly beset with problems. However, it is not always the problem but how we cope that makes us stronger and gives us the strength we need for next time. Finding joy in what we have and celebrating those little moments will help us fend off those curve balls. I enjoyed reading this thought provoking article Brenda, and the video is very uplifting.

Rosina,

Thank you so much for your heartfelt reply.

I am so glad you enjoyed the motivational video at the end.

I loved that one too!

Thank you for reading.

This is a great article on the occasion of the thanksgiving ceremony. I agree with you that with the onset of setbacks in life, we still need to be thankful for all the blessings we already have and look for the silver lining behind every cloud when we are faced with a challenge. The video at the end especially uplifted me about daring to open the door and move forward. Thank you for your marvelous contribution.
