Something About the Winter That I Like

One thing I love about winter is the widespread snow on the ground, on the trees, on the roofs and buildings, on the roads, and everywhere.

Something about the Snow that I Like

All the grass outside, the trees, cars, houses and everything on the outside world is covered in white snow. What a beautiful scenery to look at and enjoy. People walking their dogs, children enjoying the snow, making snowman and riding their sledges while their parents cheer and keep an eye on them.

Sometimes we always think of the negative effects of winter like it's too cold for us, our heating bills go up, sometimes due to heavy snow we can not get to work, me included but I still like the snow and its whiteness. There is something about the snow that excites me. You might think I am mad but there are things I really like about the winter.

There are still positive effects why I like winter. Apart from doing things like crocheting, cooking, cleaning, listening to music indoors, I enjoy watching the falling snow outside. Maybe because we have no snow in the Philippines I am so drawn to the snow. I also go out for walks during the winter and take loads of photos because I do appreciate the beauty of snowy wonderland.

I just love the whiteness of the snow and the way it covers everything on the earth's surface. Ah, it's just so amazing and so beautiful to look at and enjoy. I just want to enjoy the snow while it's there because it won't stay for long. Soon it melts away and soon it will be gone.

I also like waiting for the daffodils to start opening their lovely buds smiling like the sun. The blue bells and tulips coming out, the roses leaves start to shoot out, the leaves of the apple, plum and my pear trees suddenly come out. How wonderful it is to witness these happen during the last month of winter.

Sadly, winter is nearly over but there is something more to look forward to, the springtime. More blooming flowers and fruit trees to look forward to and more to enjoy. Another thing I like about winter I learnt about hubbing. I shall tell my friends to start hubbing especially during wintertime. Lots of things to do, hopefully next winter I will become an expert hubber.

The Negative Effects of Snow

The Negative effects of winter that I do not like are: the plants die, the roads get blocked with ice, the paths can get slippery due to the snow, the water outside turns into ice, the cars don't start straightaway sometimes, our heating bills go up, the rooftops are full of snow and it is freezing that sometimes we don't want to go out.

Despite these negative effects of winter, I won't miss the opportunity to go out there and explore the white snow on the ground. It is so magical to see the white snow everywhere you go. I also love the snowflakes falling from the heavens like showers. I enjoy taking photos of the snow. It is nice to snap that moment when everything is white on earth because after a short period all the ice will melt away until next winter time.

Something I like about winter.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on February 11, 2018:

I am sorry Richaloe, this winter seems to linger a bit longer. Never mind, spring will be here soon.

richaloe from Oxford UK on February 11, 2018:

I have just been down my allotment for two hours and I am freezing…….bring on the summer!

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on February 11, 2018:

Glad it worked out alright for you then working in your home.

Robert Sacchi on February 10, 2018:

Fortunately I was able to work from home at that time.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on February 10, 2018:

Omg that is terrible. We don't get much snow here in the south except once I remember. They might have had it in the past.

Robert Sacchi on February 10, 2018:

Every now and then we get a snowstorm that dumps over 30cm on us. A couple of years ago I was snowbound for a couple of days.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on February 10, 2018:

Hi! Robert,

We are in the south of England but we have little snow while in the north, they got a lot of snow.

Robert Sacchi on February 09, 2018:

Over here we have had some really cold days, for this part of the country, but very little snow.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on February 09, 2018:

You are right Robert there are good and bad things about winter but I still like it though. Thanks for reading my hub.

Robert Sacchi on February 08, 2018:

Yes, there is something about falling snow and a snow covered landscape. There is also the parts we don't like. We have to admit these parts we don't like are also adventurous.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on March 16, 2015:

Thank you Peachpurple for your kind comment and for visiting my hub again.

Sharilee Swaity from Canada on September 11, 2014:

This was a sweet little essay that I quite enjoyed. I like winter, too, although it seems to be coming all too soon here in Canada. (Some of my neighbours to the West have already gotten snow!)

I loved your pictures, too. Take care.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on June 01, 2013:

Sid, I will try and read your interesting and informative hubs. I know you got a lot of talent when it comes to writing because I've visited your hubs before.

Sid Kemp from Boca Raton, Florida (near Miami and Palm Beach) on June 01, 2013:

Absolutely. For more on that, you might read my 8 hubs on Go Green and global climate change. And see the movie Chasing Ice - it's an amazing presentation - beautiful - of the physical evidence.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on June 01, 2013:

I think the weather had changed all over the world this days.

Sid Kemp from Boca Raton, Florida (near Miami and Palm Beach) on June 01, 2013:

My wife is visiting her mother in Vermont, and they had snow this week. Very rare!

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on June 01, 2013:

Wow, we are still waiting for a nice summer here and I think spring has passed us here with rain and dull days. Thanks for passing by again Sid.

Sid Kemp from Boca Raton, Florida (near Miami and Palm Beach) on June 01, 2013:

Nice to look at those photos in Florida on a 90-degree summer day !

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on May 31, 2013:

Thank you Kathryn for your lovely comments. I love winter and all the seasons that comes really.

Kathryn from Windsor, Connecticut on May 31, 2013:

Winter is very cold, but I enjoy the snow, too! I like the changing seasons. Every one has its own charm. I think Spring is a beautiful thing to look forward to after a cold Winter, but I also think that Winter is something to look forward to after hot weather. Every season makes me appreciate the next so much more.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, as well as the pretty photos.

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on April 10, 2013:

travmaj, I thank you for your lovely comment. I try to see the positive in every situation. I just love the snow, the whiteness of it.

travmaj from australia on April 10, 2013:

This is a lovely positive take on winter - so refreshing - although I'm not sure I'd be so keen - we have occasional snow here and in the mountains where people ski. I have to say it looks beautiful in your photos. And,a s you say, soon spring will be with you and those lovely spring flowers shooting through the earth. Autumn here and the leaves are turning...

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on April 02, 2013:

Lovely weather today down south sunny and bright but cold, richaloe though you are right it's very cold. It will soon pass, let's hope.

richaloe from Oxford UK on April 02, 2013:

2nd of april today. Another hard frost (-3c) and a cold east wind. Enjoy!

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on April 01, 2013:

Thank you richaloe once again for your comment, I understand how you feel though with the kind of weather we have been getting recently.

richaloe from Oxford UK on April 01, 2013:

There is nothing about winter that I like. I am a warm weather person. Nice pictures through!

Thanks

Yay! Looks great! :)

Lois Ryan from Upstate NY originally from Long Island on March 10, 2013:

Nice hub and I hope you have more. I like the photos and besides for the drive back and forth to work, I like snowy days

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on March 10, 2013:

Thank you for your kind comments and your helpful hints about photos.

LongTimeMother from Australia on March 10, 2013:

You are doing an excellent job, liesl5858, and it is really good that you are using your own beautiful photos. If you go back to edit your hub, and then edit your photos, you will see there is a box that says "source". That's where you write: "Photo by liesl5858" or "Photo by liesl5858 - author." Some people write their real names in the source box when they are using their own photos.

There are different rules when you are not using your own original photos, and you can learn those rules in the Learning Center. But I hope you keep sharing your own lovely photos! Anyway, it is just a hint to help your hub climb higher so more people see it.

:)

Linda Bryen (author) from United Kingdom on March 10, 2013:

Thank you LontimeMother for your encouragement and for your lovely comment. I will be writing more but it might take me a little while as I am still learning how to hub,is this right?

LongTimeMother from Australia on March 09, 2013:

What a lovely hub, and great photos! Welcome to HubPages, liesl5858. I will be keeping an eye out for more of your hubs. I know you're a newbie so I'll give you a gentle prod to go back into your photos, and add yourself as the 'source' of the photo. It will help your hub rate higher.

Voted up!

Marie Alana from Ohio on March 09, 2013:

Thanks for reminding me of the wonderful things about winter. It is a beautiful thing to write about. I'm amazed by your middle picture. It looks as if that tree is huge. Is it really that big? The snow is beautiful.
