He's got your back
Isaiah 46:4-5 Even when you’re old, I’ll take care of you. Even when your hair turns gray, I’ll support you. I made you and will continue to care for you. I’ll support you and save you. To whom will you compare me and make me equal? To whom will you compare me so that we can be alike?
In context this scripture was given to the children of Israel as a word from the Lord through His prophet. He is telling them that He will take care of them even when they are old and gray. This is incentive to live long and like David see His goodness while you are still breathing.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Psalms 27:13 NKJ
Comfort from scripture
Psalm 71:18-19 Even when I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me live to tell the people of this age what your strength has accomplished, to tell about your power to all who will come. Your righteousness reaches to the heavens, O God. You have done great things. O God, who is like you?
The Psalmist desired the Lord to be with him when he was old and gray. This seems to indicate that gray hair indicates older age but sometimes young people can have gray tresses. I recall a girl in middle school who had a large streak of gray in her hair. I have head stories of people who have been so frightened that their hair turned white overnight. Americans know that the stress of the White House seems to turn president's gray. In spite of all of this gray hair can be seen as a badge of honor. If you are a senior with a silver mane, it means you have been blessed to live long enough to do so.
Gray hair should bring respect
Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.
Proverbs 20:28-29 A king will remain in power as long as his rule is honest, just, and fair. We admire the strength of youth and respect the gray hair of age.
These scriptures suggest that gray hair indicates righteousness and should be respected.Too often in society, especially in the entertainment business, men and women are made to feel that their white hair indicates they are aging, but the Bible tells us it is something to desire and appreciate.
Many older adults have decided to stop dying their hair and allow it to grow naturally. Sharon Osborne of The Talk is now completely gray and no longer a red head. There is an increasing number of models over age 50 who rock their silver tresses proudly. There are even younger women who dye their hair gray, or wear gray wigs as fashion statement. Not everyone's hair will change the same way. I am 61 and know people my age and younger who are totally gray. In my family the white hair comes on slowly. My grandmother died at 91 and only had a little salt and pepper color to her hair. her mom, my great grandmother passed away at 75 and only had gray around the edges of her scalp.I currently have a little gray around the edges but will not dye it. Scripture indicates it is something to be proud of and so I shall.
Benefits of going gray
There are benefits to allowing your hair to naturally transition as you age. You will not have to spend money to color your hair yourself, or spend it on getting your mane dyed at the beauty salon. This will also save the time that you sit in the salon. You also won't have to worry about touching up your roots. You will encourage other women to go natural as well. Some people believe gray hair makes them seem older but I believe this is an optical illusion.Recently Christian LeBlanc who portrays Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless made a video. On the show he is immaculate, with dark brown hair. Because of the pandemic he has not been able to get to his hairdresser and from his roots to about 4 inches down, his hair was snow white. It looked strange because there has never been a hint of gray while he has been portraying his character. Perhaps if fans had seen his hair color change gradually it would not have been such a shock.
I know of situations where someone will come back to town and the first thing people will say is that they are totally gray as if that is a bad thing. I hope these pictures and the scripture references will help someone feel good about themselves and the changing pigment of their tresses. From this day forward, consider graying hair as something that is a reward.
