My Auto, My Baby

This was Auto just chilling out. He loved to lay like this. Usually he was taking turns relaxing or meowing at me to pet him.

Rescued from the Middle of a Busy Highway

Right before I found Auto, my black & white cat, I had been searching everywhere for a kitten to adopt. What surprised me was that the paper and shelters were usually full of new kitty litters. This time though -- there were none to be found in my area.

I was headed to the grocery store one Saturday, and my kids hollered. They had seen a furry lump in the traffic and a truck that had hit it and then stopped to look at it. The pickup truck driver looked at it, then unceremoniously set him a few feet into the grass next to the shoulder of the road.

We decided right then, without hesitation to see if the poor thing was still alive. The truck had long sense gone on and the little kitty was huddled in a black furry mass in the grassy shoulder.

I left my mom and the kids in the car and told them to stay there. I did not want them to have to see the kitten if he had been badly injured and died.

I walked the few feet to the kitten and still standing over it could not see it breathing. No major blood or injury was evident right off, so, I picked it up. This kitten was SO tiny only about 4 weeks or maybe 5.

He was breathing, but his tail was bleeding and his back hip was hurt, but not broken. I carried him back to the car SO grateful that he had not been killed. God, seemed to literally have dropped this kitten into our lives.

My forever present, the love of this amazing cat.

Every year this was his favorite place to be. Anytime that I was looking for him, which was rare since he was always following me around, I would look right under the Christmas Tree.

My New Little Kitty

Auto

Well, coming up with a name for him centered around where we found him. It was in front of an Auto Repair shop, so it became his name. He was not even as big as my 2 hands held together.

The tip of his tail had been run over -- after it healed it was hairless. It looked so cute and weird at the same time. It looked sort of like a rat tail! Later as he grew up his tail hair got long enough that it covered it up, but it fanned out like a bottle brush -- all the time. :)

He was so young when we found him that he didn't know how to lap water or chew on softened food. I worked with him and he finally picked it up. At night I would hold him on my stomach and he would root around my face and try nursing my earlobe or dig in my nose looking for milk. At this time I became his true mom. He still at 1 1/2 punches my stomach every night! He is the first cat that is a true lap cat that I have ever had.

I am so blessed to have discovered this amazing cat that stole my heart!

Find the Bunny

If you look closely at Auto's face you will see a bunny!!! Not kidding! It's really there. If you look at just the white of his face you will see the silhouette of a rabbit.

I saw this only about 3 months ago and everyone is so amazed. Someone said he is my little Picasso.

This pic is one of him laying next to the front window. This is one of his favorite places, since he is up off the floor and can see out. He rests here everyday. Cats really do enjoy being up high when they can.

I am seriously wanting to look into a cat tree or hammock for my cats. The one below is one that mine would love, but I really need a 2-seater.

Self-Rewarding to Rescue

It is an amazing feeling to rescue an animal. Just knowing that I saved a little life is very satisfying. Each and every pet owner or one looking to own a cat should very seriously consider a rescue animal.

There are many ways to find rescue cats and dogs. Each one needs a good home and who better to rescue one that a true pet lover that will give him a loving home to grow and thrive in.

The animal shelter is a great place to see many choices and possibly even new litters that are up for adoption. I have volunteered at our local animal shelter. The cat room was my favorite! It was very neat taking care of the homeless cats, but my heart ached knowing that if they didn't get adopted, then they would lose their life. Each cat & dog deserve a great home. If you ever want to give back to the community, consider volunteering at your local animal shelter. Being able to show them personalized attention is an added bonus to the animals, considering they are caged all day.

I do have one other rescue cat that is a little older, and she is Auto's big sister. :) They get along great and play with each other like best friends.

Please consider a rescue animal for your family.

House Cat Choices and things to consider

When choosing to get a cat for the house, there are some things to consider. If cats have there claws they will need scratching posts, because they will scratch! You will need a litter box in a convenient spot for the cat and somewhat out of the way for you. I find the covered one to be great.

Having a house cat is a long-term commitment, not one to be made hastily.

If there are children in the home make sure they are taught how to handle and care for the cat. Cats can be a little stand-offish so, there will be times that they will let you know they want to be left alone.

Also, be aware before you get a pet, if there are any allergies of those living in the home. Allergies can be serious and a cat might not be the right choice if allergies are an issue.

Judging much???

He looks as if he was judging everyone. More likely he was put out that my lap was full and I wasn't holding him at this very moment. LOL

Update ....

It is so hard updating this page. I have recently lost Auto to liver and kidney failure. It was the hardest loss of a pet that I have ever had in my 43 years. Auto was my BEST FRIEND!

He followed me everywhere, meowed at me to get my attention, raised his voice if he felt ignored and most of all loved me unconditionally.

I know some will think, "he was only a cat!" but he was so much more to me. Since I had rescued him from the road, he had become my shadow! I will forever love him. I am grateful for the 8 years that I had him!

You forgot to include "all animals" in your pet poll. What a great story. People say that our pets actually pick us. I believe God set Auto right there for you. I'm glad that he's okay and living a happy life.

Auto is beautiful. Loved the lens. We got our house cat when she was four weeks old and she thinks I'm her mommy. :)

I believe there's a special place in Heaven for people who rescue pets. Auto is adorable - reminds me of my Oreo.
