What Hindrances or Blockages Are There in Your Prayer Life?
Praying Against the Ceiling
When you pray?
Have you ever felt that sometimes when you pray; it feels as though your prayer is not heard? Have you ever felt that it does not help to pray because you are praying against the ceiling?
You may try your hardest to pray and put all your effort and energy into it and it is as if there is no breakthrough. It is as if something is blocking our prayer. When our prayer life is blocked, we are like a volcano.
Whatever is blocking it is like the lava deep inside the volcano.
It will builds up steam and heat and later also pressure. If the prayer channel is open, the pressure will be released like the steam and heat from a volcano, but if it is blocked it is like a volcano that has been inactive, but under the crust has built up more and more pressure and then suddenly it explodes and destroys everything around itself.
That is when we see Christians do things that are not expected from children of God.
We have to deal with this serious problem of blocked prayer. We have to be honest in identifying these blockages and also then to pray honest prayers toward God.
Everything is already known by God, nothing is hidden from His eyes.
We as humans use defence mechanisms to protect ourselves from hurt, disappointment, fear, hate, trauma and whatever hurts us.
We have to be honest about theses defences and we have to let the Holy Spirit break down these walls. Sometimes these walls are so high that nothing, not even you can penetrate it, so it’s only God that can break down these walls.
While these defence mechanisms are still in your life, you cannot break through to the throne room of God.
What hinders prayer?
Yeshua was furious when He came to the temple in Jerusalem and found that the temple was used for thieves and robbers trading and selling their goods.
He made a whip and drove all the unholy practices out of the temple. He told them with authority and power that the house of God must be a house of prayer.
Yeshua wants us today to also drive out all the unholy practices in our prayer life.
The most important part of a born again Child of God is his prayer life. Most Christians struggle with this vital part of their Christianity. How can you call yourself a child of God if you never speak to your Father? Communication is key to any relationship. How much more with God?
Every Christian’s greatest desire is for God to answer their prayers.
Let’s look at the monsters that hinders prayer?
There are a lot of Hindrances that will block our prayer but let’s look at the 4 monsters that the evil one will use to stop prayer and then at others that also will block prayer.
These monsters could take on hundreds of different forms and branches.
Let’s first identify the 4 monsters.
According to most scientists 50 to 80% of modern day illnesses originate from these monsters.
When these demon blockages are left to re-circulate in the system it will eventually resurface in the body in the form of illnesses, cancers and even in physically behavior and even demon possession, leading to an early death.
So what is this monster we are talking about?
The Four Monsters Explain
1 John 2:9-11: Whoever says he is in the Light and [yet] hates his brother [Christian, born-again child of God his Father] is in darkness even until now. Whoever loves his brother [believer] abides (lives) in the Light, and in It or in him there is no occasion for stumbling or cause for error or sin. But he who hates (detests, despises) his brother [in Christ] is in darkness and walking (living) in the dark; he is straying and does not perceive or know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (AMP)
1 John 3:14-15: We know that we have passed over out of death into Life by the fact that we love the brethren (our fellow Christians). He who does not love abides (remains, is held and kept continually) in [spiritual] death. Anyone who hates (abominates, detests) his brother [in Christ] is [at heart] a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding (persevering) within him. (AMP)
Unforgiveness originates from Hate.
Hatred works in such a way that you can’t forgive and it is one of the most common reasons.
You will be judged by the way you forgive those who trespass against you.
If you do not forgive, God can’t forgive you (principle). “No sin prayer will come before God”.
Matthew 7:1-5: "Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others. Why, then, do you look at the speck in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye? How dare you say to your brother, 'Please, let me take that speck out of your eye,' when you have a log in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
After I was baptised in the Holy Spirit I went to the old age home where my Grandmother was and I would visit her and the old people. There were an old lady that was my spiritual mother and God used her in my life. Usually they would bring the sick and lost to her for prayer, even on her deathbed. God would always hear her prayers and healed the sick. She was always an inspiration for me and I learned so mush from her.
One day as I was visiting her some woman came and asked me to go and pray for a very sick woman. The hospital has sent her home to die; they could do nothing for her. Even the church has left her to die. She was left in her dark and smelly room. When I got there I almost vomit of the stench. She was suffering from, cancer and her wounds were seeping and it was a stench you couldn’t imagine. They did not help or bath her, they left her to die. I prayed for her, with no significant results. The next day God spoke to me and He sent me back to that lady.
The Lord told me to go and deal with Unforgiveness and also to have communion with the lady before I prayed for healing. I went to the old lady and I told her that the Lord has sent me to pray for her and that the Lord has shown me that she has Unforgiveness in her heart. She started weeping and then she told me that she hated someone so intensely that that it hurts. We started working on this problem and after hours of prayer and tears she forgave that person after reading
Mathew 7. Then we had communion. She was so relieved and the true word of God made her free. We prayed for healing and I left. The next Sunday morning we were sitting in church, before the service had started and I heard uproar of voices as people were shocked and whispering. I looked to see what was happening and I almost fainted and then I started to rejoice openly.
The old lady they had sent home to die has walked into the church and on her way to the pulpit. She was deep in her 70’s and people didn’t expect her to last the week, and here she came walking into church on her own. As she got to the front, she took the microphone and without ceremony started to testify. She started by saying, Yes you all wrote me off but Yeshua (Jesus) never did.
He healed me completely and look she lifted up her garments and she was healed totally, no marks were left from her ordeal. The church was speechless and some started to weep and others hang there heads in shame. She went on and she told the church that she forgave and Yeshua (Jesus) healed her. Those people began to praise and worship God for His goodness and mercies. We had a revival service that day. Her sickness was caused by Unforgiveness and as she forgave Yeshua (Jesus) healed her.
2 Tim 1:7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (KJV)
Romans 8:15-16: For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead, the Spirit makes you God's children, and by the Spirit's power we cry out to God, "Father! my Father!" God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children. (GNB)
1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into Love's complete perfection]. (AMP)
1 John 4:4: But you belong to God, my children, and have defeated the false prophets, because the Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world. (GNB)
Psalm 51:10-14: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me. Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me. Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you. Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness. (GNB)
Then there is also these blockages we have to look at:
1. When you are not in right standing with God
Leviticus 26:13 – 19: I, the LORD your God, brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves. I broke the power that held you down and I let you walk with your head held high." The LORD said, "If you will not obey my commands, you will be punished. If you refuse to obey my laws and commands and break the covenant I have made with you, I will punish you. I will bring disaster on you---incurable diseases and fevers that will make you blind and cause your life to waste away.
2. or there is sin in your life.
You will plant your crops, but it will do you no good, because your enemies will conquer you and eat what you have grown. I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated, and those who hate you will rule over you; you will be so terrified that you will run when no one is chasing you. "If even after all of this you still do not obey me, I will increase your punishment seven times. I will break your stubborn pride; there will be no rain, and your land will be dry and as hard as iron. (GNB) / 19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: (KJV)
Deuteronomy 28:23: Your sky that is over your head shall be brass, and the earth that is under you shall be iron. (KJV)
3. Prayer can be hindered by demon spirits.
What actually happens is that your prayers are be captured or hindered in the spiritual realm?
These evil spirits can resist the answers of prayers.
Daniel 10:11-13: The angel said to me, "Daniel, God loves you. Stand up and listen carefully to what I am going to say. I have been sent to you." When he had said this, I stood up, still trembling. Then he said, "Daniel, don't be afraid. God has heard your prayers ever since the first day you decided to humble yourself in order to gain understanding. I have come in answer to your prayer. The angel prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief angels, came to help me, because I had been left there alone in Persia. (GNB)
How is this possible?
It is possible because the demons are actively busy fighting the children of God. You can also help them by giving the devil the right to do just that, because of sin in your life and because of unbelief.
4. The lack of knowledge (we do not pray the word and will of God).
Proverbs 1:29-33: You have never had any use for knowledge and have always refused to obey the LORD. You have never wanted my advice or paid any attention when I corrected you. So then, you will get what you deserve, and your own actions will make you sick. Inexperienced people die because they reject wisdom. Stupid people are destroyed by their own lack of concern. But whoever listens to me will have security. He will be safe, with no reason to be afraid." (GNB)
Ignorance of the Word and eating of blood will cause you to be cut off from God. Leviticus 17:10 - 14:
Isaiah 47:10 "You felt sure of yourself in your evil; you thought that no one could see you. Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray, and you said to yourself, 'I am God--- there is no one else like me.
5. Self-centredness is another open door.
Hebrew 4:11: Let us, then, do our best to receive that rest, so that no one of us will fail as they did because of their lack of faith. (GNB)
6. Wrong motives:
James 4:3 “You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts”.
7. A lack of generosity:
Proverbs 21:13: Who so stopped his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
8. Idols in your life,
Like money, sex, power etc.
Ezekiel 14:1: (Webster) (1) then came certain of the elders of Israel to me, and sat before me. (2) And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, (3) Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?
9. Lack of faith:
Matthew 9:29: Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
10. Submission by one’s spouse
(Wife’s to her husband, husband to the head, Yeshua (Jesus Christ) is essential to keep the prayer channels open.
My respect for your wife and family:
Peter 3:7: Likewise, you husbands, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
All these reasons (and there are lots more) are the most common for prayer not to breaking through into God’s throne room.
But God Answers Prayer
God answers prayer if we can overcome.
Yeshua is our example and showed us how to pray
Mount of olives where Jesus prayed!
