What is Self-Love?
You can research the topic everywhere, but honestly, self-love is within you. It's within me. It sounds so cliche, but when you finally find it within yourself, it's something completely different from what we thought we knew.
So finally, what is self-love? It's the regard of one's self-worth and happiness. And it's the best feeling in the world.
My Continuous Journey to Self-Love
Self-Love is a continuous and tumultuous journey. Sometimes there's a detour because we've stumbled across something shiny. But, then we get back on the path.
I have always been a self-conscious girl growing up, and still as an adult. Trying hard to fit in instead of standing out. Changing every single part of me because I wanted to be part of something popular. But through those changes, I lost myself and most importantly, my happiness.
And then anxiety became my best friend. An awful feeling is that knot in your throat, pit in your stomach, and body tingles. And it's all because of anxious thoughts and feelings.
If it costs you your peace, it's expensive.
Simple Ways to LOVE Yourself
Self Love doesn't happen overnight. You have to build up to this positive attitude towards yourself. Making sure to show yourself it's worth. And it could just be simple things. Listed are a few things I do for myself just because I know I deserve it and I want to love myself and enjoy the life I live.
- Self-Date: There are times that I want to do something that interests me. Like a Paint-Nite, concert, or dinner. I buy the ticket and I go. I don't seek approval and I definitely don't wait to make plans with friends. I just go for it and follow my interests. When I do those things, I learn a bit more about myself. And I start to embrace the person I am.
- Self-Pamper: Sometimes it's an expensive habit, but when I look at my pampered nails and toes, I know it was the right decision. Because I deserve to feel like a million bucks. Even a massage, facial, or wax. It shows that you care about your appearance; not for someone, but for yourself. There are other ways to self-pamper that doesn't burn a hole in your wallet. The whole point is to show your body the love and care it deserves.
- Meditation: It all starts with the mind and inner peace. I've started meditating and it's changed my life. I've been able to calm my mind from all the calamity. But also, it's those 5-10 mins to myself that I value. And when you value yourself, it's showing your mind that the most important person at the moment is you.
The pressures of the outside world change me. And I don't want to be a woman who has to mold to what society expects of me. I'm still learning how to love myself without the world's expectations. I'm learning to be who I am because that's the person I want to be. And it all starts with self-love.
I encourage you to look in the mirror and tell yourself that "I love me." It's the best feeling in the world to know that there is a guaranteed person who loves you. And that's "ME".
