Desires of Your Heart
Psalm 37:4 English Standard Version (ESV)
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
What does Psalm 37 v4 mean?
One can read into it and believe that as long as one puts the Lord first then He will let us win the jackpot of our local lottery, or He will give us some other material thing like a big house or fancy new car or the person we want to marry.
However, this is not so. Those are worldly thoughts, it is a worldly way of thinking. Also, God knows our needs and He knows what is best for us.
When we give our lives over to Jesus and become truly saved the desires of our heart change, they change from worldly desires to Godly desires. What should our desires be?
Are they to win the lottery or to win souls for Christ? To get a mansion on earth or one in heaven? To marry a specific person of our worldly choosing or a spouse chosen by God? (The list can be extensive).
We ought to be Godly focused and so our desires will be Godly. All worldly things will pass away and heavenly things will last forever. We ought to lay up treasures in heaven, where moth or rust can not destroy.
Matthew 6:19-21 King James Version (KJV)
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Saving souls is what matters.
1 John 2:17 King James Version (KJV)
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Remember this, be content with what you have. Sure, on this world all around us we can see people doing whatever they want and prospering. But that is worldly living. They are empty inside and trying to fill the void with 'stuff' rather than God. We have all the riches we need. We have Jesus and salvation and so it is our duty to show them the way to true happiness.
Philippians 4:11-13 English Standard Version (ESV)
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Become God focused, when you do, then you will see that life is not about getting stuff. Life is about doing the will of God. Life on earth is short, don’t waste it gathering worldly things.
The world is filled with people suffering, hurting and who are lost. Let us live as Christ did and for Christ. Let us get out into the world and bring the Lost to Him. The harvest is plentiful.
Matthew 9:35-38 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Compassion of Jesus
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”Is this the desire of your heart? Do you desire to do the Lords work, to see people saved to come to Christ? Are your desires Godly or worldly?
