Accept Yourself and Move On

I have been writing poetry, fiction and short stories for many years and have completed a book of poems. I also enjoy comedy writing.

Be Yourself

Be Yourself

My skin may not be perfect, I may have a few skin tags and moles.

My hair may not be beautiful and my wrinkles may show I am old.

I may be heavy on the gut and my butt not that awesome

I may even be an introvert, and my life and existence lonesome

I may have a few crooked teeth and my toes are not pretty at all

I may even be flat footed, and before my second step I am prone to fall

It is possible I am just a nerd and do not make friends with the school jocks

I may not be ontime all the time, After reading grandpa's old clocks

I may be sickly and can't partake in sports

I may simply be the clutz on the basket ball courts

I don't know how to fry chicken nor make a perfect stew

My clothes may just be a bit raggedy and my closet has nothing new

I don't follow fashion trends nor does my life resolve around the social media

But my life may be a sad love story on rewind playing on a multimedia

Despite all what I am not, I am proud of all that I am

I am me, there is no other version

I don't pretend to live in someone else's flesh

I walk my own path, I create my own footsteps

I am me, accepted and proud

My own spirit, my own character, with expression of happiness so loud

I will be the best me possible

My own destiny, my own actions I hold myself accountable

Nobodies shadow shall see me lingering behind

I accept me, I accept who I am, now it's time to shine.

Very good words. A person once wrote about throwing off the bags on your shoulders filled with hurt, pain and shame then moving forward freely. I enjoyed reading this.
