The author is pursuing engineering in computer science. However, he loves creative writing as well and writes in his free time.

It was a moonless night. A seven years old Kevin was peacefully asleep in his bed.

His profound sleep was suddenly broken by a weird noise.

"Hmm...hmm," someone moaned.

The voice sounded feminine.

Kevin sprung out of his bed, overtaken by the dread of the unknown.

"Perhaps I am overthinking," he thought.

But his conviction was instantly shattered as the voice echoed throughout Kevin's room once again."Aar aa!"

On listening closely, Kevin discovered that the voice was coming from the storeroom which was right above his room.

The sound stopped, and suddenly, came a smacking shriek,"I am coming!"

Kevin turned purple with fear. He screamed at the top of his lungs.

His parents darted to his room.

"What is it?" Kevin's dad shouted, perplexed.

Kevin's mom came running, panting.

"Honey, what happened?" she asked.

"There...there is someone in the storeroom" Kevin stammered with fear. "I heard a scream."

"Okay, let's take a look," dad said.

The three of them reached the storeroom. As the door was opened, a gust of cool air hit them softly.

"The air conditioner is turned on," dad said.

"And I thought it was you who was turned on!", mom whispered in dad's ear.

"Not now!" he whispered back.

"I must have forgotten to switch off the air conditioner," dad said.

"But what about the voices?" Kevin murmured.

"How many times have we told you not to watch any horror stuff at night?" mom said, frowning her brow.

"Go back to your room this instant!"

Kevin sighed and went away.

"You shouldn't have screamed so loud", dad said, chuckling.

"It was your idea to do it in the storeroom!" mom said, squinting her eyes.

"Went bad!" dad muttered.

"How about the bedroom?" mom asked, smiling.

"All right!" dad proclaimed with enthusiasm.
