The Wounded Ones
Driving Through The Moors
Ellie hated driving through the moors at night, it was creepy enough in the day, but at night it was just plain terrifying. Just miles and miles of nothing. No people, no buildings, no street lights, just.... nothing. Vast rolling countryside punctuated by the occasional horse.
With only her headlights to show her the way, Ellie had to keep her eyes open, especially as the rogue horses had a tendency to bolt into the middle of the road. But today, something was different, all the horses were together, in a group. She had been driving down this road every other day for the past 2 years, and had never seen them do this.
A Terrible Accident
As she drove further on, she came across the explanation for the horse's weird behavior. There seemed to have been a horrible accident, two cars were in the road, one looked like it had T- boned the other. She had slowed to a crawl to see what had happened and noticed a man, no two men lying in the road! They weren't moving, but it was too dark to see if they were breathing or not. She needed to help them.
To this day she still isn't sure what made her stop, her seat belt was undone, her hand on the door ready to open it and run to help the injured people, when, suddenly it occurred to her "this is a single lane, how did someone get T-boned on a single lane?" She looked at the cars again, closer this time. She turned on every light she could. The cars were fine. There was no damage, no dents, no smoke, nothing. It was like one car had been placed next to the other one..... To make it look like an accident.
She sped away as fast as her crappy little car would carry her, but looking in her rear-view mirror she realized that this wasn't going to be fast enough. The people on the road had climbed into their cars and were coming up fast.
