The Things Left Far Behind

Twitching uncomfortably under the glances of the people in the room, pale, creamy, porcelain legs raise the body of a girl from her seat.

A girl always lost in thought.

Bright, childlike laughter bounces off alabaster walls. Running quickly, a young girl no more than 8 bashes into another body.

Slowly glancing up to honey glazed eyes framed by thick black glasses, she distances herself.

Smiling brightly, she grabs the hand of the girl she knew so well.

The girl she loved and would always be connected to because of how they were born.

Grabbing that hand, pushing her feet into the ground to propel herself forward, she lurches the other girl behind her.

Giggling, eyes brimming with happiness she turns to the other girl.

“ I love you.”

“ I know.”

A slam brings her back to the room, making her aware of all the ashen, sunken faces that stared at her amongst the photos of a face just like hers.

“ I plead guilty.”
