The Spirit of the Word. Sunday's Inspiration 6, a 70th Birthday Tribute to William Dale Holland, A.k.a Billybuc.

Manatita is an esteemed author living in London, UK. He writes spiritual books, flash fiction and esoteric poetry, his favourite genre.

Happy Soul's Day, Bill

“What I think about when I think of Bill is how skillfully, effectively and sensitively he wields words to help and influence others. His consistency impresses me, as well.” – Nellieanna Hay, 29th September 2018.

Some time ago, I saw a movie called The Spirit oft he Sword. Like most Chinese episodes, it was very long; with many twists and turns, yet it remained true to the Soul of the Sword: honour, self-respect, discipline, integrity, assiduousness and sacrifice. In the light of Bill’s virtues, I have added the all-emcompassing Love and selfless service.

Yesterday I did a transaction in Heidelberg, using only English, while the old man attending to me used only German. Yet, with a few gestures added, we were able to communicate and I obtained an adapter for my mobile phone.

The Great Yogi Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, said that it was impossible to describe God, The Absolute. Yet he also said that words are necessary to praise, adore, celebrate … to manifest God’s Light … His Love.

William Dale Holland, a.k.a. Billybuc, is a walking epitome of this kind of service … a benchmark of inspiration for everything good and noble in man. This he expresses articulately, eloquently, exquisitely and touchingly, through the medium of the written and spoken word. Our friend Nellieanna Hay says as much in the quote at the beginning of the Hub.

I have said a great deal about Bill, (some links I have given below), but as some of our friends included in this Hub know, many have been touched by his words and it is towards this great medium of communication, that I have dedicated this piece.

I have told recently of a couple of lives that have been saved, simply by reading the written word; I have told of the power of the song Amazing Grace. I have said that a man rushed to the stage and kissed me, after hearing one of my poems and I have seen first hand, the many sublime responses, from those who have read Bills‘ writings. Here’s what our mutual friend Linda has to say:

Bill Holland

Bill Holland

“I became acquainted with Bill about 5 years ago. He is humble, kind, honest, and a man of integrity. Whatever he does, he does well and he does it with passion. He has seen the dark side of life but believes in the good of mankind. He has faced hardship but believes in perseverance. He believes in love. I count him as a teacher, mentor, and most of all a friend. “ – Linda Lum, 29th September, 2018.

In a deeper or lofty sense, the Word was there in the begining and is a birthless and deathless journey. All things were made by this Word (Love), and without It there was nothing made. This same Word became flesh and dwelt among'st us and it is this same Absolute Silence-Sound, which uses us as humans, to manifest Itself. In this sense, Bill is a most examplary and visionary instrument of the Supreme.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." - John 1:1

Quote from the Master:

"We are all God's children,

But world peace dreamers,

World peace lovers,

And world peace servers,

Are undoubtedly God's choicest children." -Sri Chinmoy

William Dale Holland, you serve the inner beauty … the dreamer in us so well! Peace.

Marlene Bertrand, another mutual friend of ours, was quite touched by Bill's welcoming words and friendship, nearly seven years ago. She expresses it thus:

BillyBuc is the first person to introduce himself to me on Hub Pages over seven years ago. He calls everybody “friend,” and it is such a joy to know him. Bill is an inspiration to all. No matter how busy he is, he stops to help in any way he can. His tag line fits him perfectly: “Helping writers to spread their wings and fly.” Happy Birthday, Bill! I hope your day is filled with lots of love and many blessings. -Marlene Bertrand.

And a short piece by the promising, charming and loving writer Li-jen Hew:

I can tell that Bill is a kind and friendly soul through his “The Writer’s Mailbag” series which is in fact, a mailbag into Bill’s heart. The series title itself shows that he is a true writer, one with a positive objective, as he consistently helps readers with
writing along with his funny personality. Bill is an inspiration to be yourself even at the age of 70. Happy Birthday, Bill!
Kind Regards,

Li-Jen, 6th October, 2018

Beverley, Bill's wife and Allora

Beverley, Bill's wife and Allora

The Hubber Shauna Bowling is very well known among the Hub Pages community and indeed contributes to many hubber-friends work, both past and present. She has written a beautiful Ode in prose form, for Bill's significant milestone -- this major three score and ten -- a ticket, some say, which takes one straight to Heaven.

Well, perhaps Bill is experiencing his heaven right now, and I will definitely include his wife Beverley, family and friends in this process of earthly and heavenly joy.

Ode to Bill Holland aka billybuc

Ode to Bill Holland aka billybuc

I first met Bill seven years ago on Hub Pages. I honestly don’t remember who started following whom first, but we became more than writers in a large community; we became friends. He’s always supported my writing and genuinely feels I have talent. That confidence was integral in my decision to once again consider writing professionally. In fact, he gave me a lead that led to my first paid online writing gig. I made pretty decent part-time income, although nothing compares to what I made as a copywriter in the ‘80s.

Bill is genuine. He cares. He supports not only my writing, but my soul. We’ve had many phone conversations, just talking about life. He offers advice when asked, but never judges. Although we’ve never met in person, once his voice is in my ear, the thousands of miles between us disappear. We both have busy lives, but he always has time for a friend.

Bill is known by most of us as a mentor on HP. But he’s so much more. His novels are gripping and keep me turning the pages. In fact, I have an entire area on my book shelf dedicated to his novels. His “Shadows” series is an example of an author who reaches out beyond his gentle soul. They’re dark, mysterious and always have a surprise ending.

To me, that marks a phenomenal writer; one who gets repeat business from this reader. He’s right up there with Dean Koontz in that when he comes out with a new book, I must have it.

Bill is an amazing human being. He holds a special place in my heart.

“Who in their right mind, needing a little loving would not love or wish to visit Bill’s Hubs? " Says Eric Dierker. "If you are having trouble with your perspective on life, go read Bill.

It is so cool that Bill teaches us both the value and detriment of words we use in writing. If a structure of words of love were to be made, Bill would be the architect. He has taught me that the spirit of how we use words is what brings them alive. Wow!

However if you compare yourself with others in the areas of growth and productivity, you may want to avoid Bill. You know, those folks who post selfies of themselves with ridiculous grins showing themselves in a luxurious way at expensive resorts. Well, Bill don’t do that. But as for me, just reading his stuff makes me feel like “is there really this type of paradise on earth?” Can we really soak up and pour out that much love?

In my mind, “I want to be like Bill!” - Eric Dierker, 3rd October, 2018

The tremendously inspirational, tender, yet courageous and loving soul, Ioannis Arvanitis came up with this sublime accolade:

I remember an old saying; I think it goes like: "A good man is more important on Earth than another angel in Heaven." I believe it's written for people like Bill.

From the very first moment I met him here in the HP community, I noticed his work and efforts to help and support others. I realized that he was one of those people commissioned by God, to inspire the Spirit of Love in this Planet. A man of Love, a Spiritual traveler.

Every man like Bill, who tries to fill his every moment with Love for everything he does, seeking the way to the inner Truth, looking for the God within and trying to experience unity with the entire Universe and God's creatures, is the highest traveler. Wherever he is, at the top of a mountain, behind a computer, in the farm, everywhere, he travels spiritually through the Inner Space of the Heart and Soul, trying to come in contact with other souls to offer them his

Love and help. He travels a journey that cannot be measured by hours, days or miles because it is a journey out of time and space and into eternity. A trip to truth and knowledge, the only real journey.

My brother, I wish this trip of yours on this blessed planet, to be very long and always happy. We need you. We thank you.

Respect and Admiration! Ioannis Arvanitis, 5th October, 2018

Bill's extended family

Bill's extended family

My very good friend and spiritual brother, Venkatachari M, seems to have spent some heart-felt thoughts on this succinct but immaculate piece, covering so many aspects of Bill's strengths and virtues. Here it is below:

Bill Holland is a very nice and gentle person with wonderful writing skills. I am blessed to be in his company as one of his friends.

I have read many inspirational and insightful articles posted by him at Hub Pages during the last 4 years. I regard him as a very gifted and talented writer looking at his writing skills. His writing flow is very beautiful and always in a continuous rhythm as can be seen from his various articles. He writes very inspirational posts and educative ones that provide some extremely useful tips to all aspiring writers.

Bill Holland is very cool and gentle in his character. He is always willing to help people, especially in the writing field. With this aim of helping others, he started the mailbag series through which one can ask any type of question regarding one's problems or doubts. Bill provides very excellent and practical answers along with some easy solutions to their problems in these series.

You will wonder at his vast knowledge, regarding all issues that worry the writers. He answers each question very patiently and perfectly in a cool manner thereby clearing the problems and doubts faced by the writer. We can rarely find such a great person who does all this only for pleasure and for the betterment of the writing community. No selfishness at all.

His views on urban farming, frugal living, and the political and social issues of everyday life that are expressed through his writings are a result of his clear-cut perception and practical experience. One can learn many things from his works that help us in our daily existence or for our future benefits in life.

And, one must know that he is not gifted with any comfortable plush life spending his life in a very tension-free manner sharing his opinions and knowledge happily all around here as time passes. He has numerous family responsibilities and can hardly cherish spare moments for a 'lazy' nap.

Bill has this great virtue of pure humanity and cares for others due to which he feels that it is his duty or responsibility to help people around him and make the world a better place to live. That is the reason why he is able to keep some time separate from his busy schedule to help people by sharing his knowledge and experiences through his writings.

So, I am much fascinated by his nature and regard him as a great human personality. Wish him all my best wishes. Venkatachari M. 3rd October, 2018

Tribute Poems to Bill, by Rinita Sen and Chitrangada Sharan

And then there is poetry too! Bill's phrases are sometimes so poetic! Here's an exquisite piece written by one of our loved poets.

When your garden-lily glows, and reddens your prunes

Thousands of miles away, a budding poet blooms

Your tales of yesteryear, mingled with joy and tears

Stimulate the wind beneath the writer's wings

To fly, fly away, beyond the horizon

Sans the tangled fears

Every week ends, and another begins, with the same dawn

Brings in your personable letters, in the first post of the morn

Vast pages of searing vacuum, your kindly knowledge does fill

Here's wishing a bright birthday, to our helpful Hubber Bill. Rinita sen, 2nd October, 2018

By Chitrangada, my DidiJi

When I received a request, from dear Manatita, to write something for our favourite Bill Holland( aka billybuc), I was pleased to have this honour and opportunity. Bill Holland is the ultimate inspiration, for most of the hubbers in the HubPages community. And the first thought that comes to my mind, when I think of Bill is ‘gratitude.’

Why do I say so? Because, I have always observed that he has helped new writers, as well as the established ones, without any reservations. It may sound simple, but it’s not. I believe, that it is because of the fact that he is basically a teacher. Once a teacher, always a teacher.

A true teacher always inspires, motivates, and shares his knowledge and expertise with everyone. They touch so many lives, their mind and heart, with their love, affection and wisdom, and billybuc is no different. Here is a short poem to wish Our Dearest billybuc much Love on his 70th Birthday. To one of the best hubbers around:

Gratitude, for making us a little better,

Your hard work and daily dose of hubs,

Keeps us all from getting low or down,

You are appreciated, for your non stop work,

You are the reason, for many to stick around,

Wishing many, more years of health and happiness,

And many more wonderful writings to share.

You live your spirited life, to the fullest,

You try, not to waste a single moment,

You are always available and accessible,

You are the illuminating light, a virtual torch.

You help the writers to spread their wings and fly,

You enlighten, and guide, spread love and peace,

Let this be known that you are appreciated,

Your compassion, and your thoughts,

Generosity costs nothing, rather it enriches,

No one is so poor, that they cannot give,

Takes some effort, but the memories last forever,

The ‘spirit’ in me, honours the ‘spirit’ in you.

Happy Birthday Bill Holland! -Chitrangada Sharan, 3rd October, 2018.

Books that Bill authored

Books that Bill authored

This last poem was offered by John Hansen, a.k.a. Jodah, for Bill's 100th Writer's Mailbag series.

John Hansen's Poem

Ode to Billybuc

Bill Holland is a teacher,

It shows in all he does.

He teaches others how to write.

It's something that he loves.

He has an urban garden,

Raising rabbits, goats, and quail.

He teaches by example,

How self-sufficiency prevails.

On Hub Pages he is billybuc,

His Mailbag's widely read,

At fiction he is brilliant

For writing, he has bled.

To me he is a mentor,

An example to us all,

Of how to be an author,

Who help others when they call. – John Hanson. Copyrighted 25th May, 2016.

For many more fantastic years!!

"Happy Birthday," once again Bro.

Words fail to describe a guy like you.

My Love & Gratitude for your friendship, Sis

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on October 15, 2018:

If love is divine as I know it is, this tribute is divinity. Perhaps the word "saint" applies here. Bill's religion is love and we get that love from him. And it is cool to read so many of my friends here.

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on October 15, 2018:

I am really happy you did this Manatita. Bill deserves so much gratitude from us as he has given himself in many ways to the community but also in a special way to each one of us. Happy 70th Birthday Bill. We are happy you are part of our community.

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on October 15, 2018:

Manatita, thank you for putting together this tribute. It is well deserved and done beautifully. Bill is a wonderful human being. I am so glad that you asked me to contribute. If you were to ask each friend of Bill's to write, this hub would be thousands of pages in length.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on October 15, 2018:

I am literally speechless. No matter which words I choose to express what I feel about this outpouring of love, they seem inadequate. All of you, please, forgive my shortness of response...it is simply the case of a writer unable to find the words for what he is feeling. This I will say: I love you all!

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on October 15, 2018:

Manatita, you did a wonderful job of comprising this wonderful tribute to our friend, Bill. Love the video! I am honored to have been asked to participate in your loving presentation in celebration of Bill's 70th birthday.

Happy Birthday, Bill!

manatita44 (author) from london on October 15, 2018:

Thanks John.

Spelt it twice and it was correct once. Yes, I remember. Sometimes we become creatures of habit. Apologies.

Appreciate your contribution. God bless you this early morning here in London. Peace.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on October 14, 2018:

What a wonderful tribute to a great human, Manatita. I am sure Bill will be both extremely grateful and humbled by this. I loved what others said about Bill too, all so true. (Oh my surname is actually HANSEN with an "e" not an "o" haha. I have noticed you have spelt it that way previously too. I have Danish heritage, not Norwegian.) Great job though.

manatita44 (author) from london on October 14, 2018:

Thank you, Mr Happy -- for your nice compliment and for being the first one here. Welcome and much Gratitude.

Mr. Happy from Toronto, Canada on October 14, 2018:

And happy birthday Mr. Bill! Wish You had a good one, with many more to come. Cheers!
