The Day Yet Night

Updated on May 15, 2017

The Day Yet Night
I wander through the streets of the city by day.
The river flows down stream.
Taking with it my thoughts and dreams.
I stop and inhale.
I look around like an observant tourist for the first time.
I tour and absorb the newness.
Things I never noticed
Seen with new eyes
With new breath
Birds bring music to my ears as they begin to settle in.
The church bells ring and the people scatter.
Night falls and the stars glisten in my eyes.
Oh, how I would love to be this present always.
If life would slow and be kind
Sounds lessen and footsteps fade
The night in the city has enveloped us all.
