Strange Leaps in Life: A Poem

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

There was a boy in a story too poignant to tell

but also too strange to be secretive about

it's about a childhood that was more like hell

about a sunshine of a youth turning into blackout.

An inspiration to a seeker, or a treat to a shrink

the story could be told to satisfy them both

it depends on what someone prefers to think

whether about suffering or a spiritual growth.

So there were times of starvation ending with illness

and times of despair, self-doubt and fear

when time seemed imprisoned in a paralyzing stillness

with nothing to change, and ever a reason for cheer.

And then by some magic only found in fiction

something unfolded in his soul on its own

contrary to any learned shrink's prediction

all that crap of childhood got somehow overgrown.

Some like to call it a quantum leap

others might prefer digging much deeper

and as for me, I don't really give a bleep

although I would say the boy was a "leaper".

For some more leaps occurred a few times later

when yesterday could not explain tomorrow

with life suddenly turning greater

and with no trace of ever knowing sorrow.
