Smile: A Poem

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Life without a smile wouldn't be worth living

it's a soul's expression of celebrating joy

and also a gesture of our forgiving

for anything in life with a power to annoy.

Pleasure that we see on a baby's face

tells us smile goes deeper than a thought

as we don't need words for a warm embrace

that would make a baby smile a lot.

Smile quickly changes chemistry in us

every cell thriving on its meaning

wiping off all worry and all fuss

while giving us an instant inner cleaning.

It is a part of our beauty and charm

and even a monkey looks better with a smile

it works like a balsam on every harm

adding to generosity of an extra mile.

And yes, it could be phony although with effect

as every politician knows in his career

but in eyes of a smart voter so easy to detect

for smile is only smile when a heart is near.
