River of the Moon, Chattahoochee

Updated on September 1, 2016
River of the Moon
River of the Moon

When early man first came, the river was a mystery, had no name,

Superstition reigned, until one night, in a moon so bright, it came.

River of the Moon, you great provider, home of the musical loon,

Your waters satisfy our thirst, there where the wild are all in tune.

Refrain:

Shine on us, River of the Moon, Chattahoochee, brightly shine,

No music to be your equal, of your memories, so divine.

Play us a tune River Moon, as your water's ripple so fine.

Great river, our all of life giver, a home of the strong and the meek,

Your water world, a treasure, as gold, none greater, we may seek.

Birds wing to your sanctuary, follow your estuary, a maternal source,

Precious river's purity, a surety, irrigating throughout your course.

Refrain:

Shine on us, River of the Moon, Chattahoochee, brightly shine,

No music to be your equal, of your memories, so divine.

Play us a tune River Moon, in your water's ripple so fine.

Our lives we owe to you, oh River of the Moon, we are sincere,

Reflections so grand, a night time river band, sounds we hear.

Birds, frogs, fury creatures all join in, in such beauty, transcend,

Carrying over wild woods and glens, their joyful notes to send.

Refrain:

Shine on us, River of the Moon, Chattahoochee, brightly shine,

No music to be your equal, of your memories, so divine.

Play us a tune River Moon, in your water's ripple so fine.

Born in a high mountain's top, your waters spring forth, flowing on,

Down through the valleys and across the dales, goes a joyful song.

River of the Moon, purveyor of the ages, in solitude you do persist,

Your sanctity, generosity, a friend, by your benevolent gifts, all exist.

Refrain:

Shine on us, River of the Moon, Chattahoochee, brightly shine,

No music, to be your equal, of your memories, so divine.

Play us a tune River Moon, in your water's ripple so fine.

A lovely poem - or song, too. Rivers are so important for a healthy environment for wildlife. Thank you for sharing this gem.

So cool. My river is the Colorado and my creek Oak Creek. I have a brother that pretty much believes the river is an extension of God. I just love this, thank you

I love your song/poem about the Chattahoochee River ...the river of my childhood too!

I'm sure someone would love to put this to music, and it would be a best seller.

      Blessings

I can hear the gentle ripples of the water as nature carries its tune set by the motion of the moon. Very peaceful, whonu. Love the photos!
