Political Illusion---Dogs Expected to Meow: A Satirical Poem

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Political conflicts always remind

of animal shelters and that noisy blend

of barking and meowing with no hope to find

a common language that all would understand.

As if trying to just get on each other's nerve

dogs keep telling cats to keep quiet

while cats calling dogs names they deserve

so all you can hear is an incessant riot.

Neither side knows what the others mean

they only know what they want to say

and you wouldn't find a crazier scene

in animated comedies of this day.

Each politician sounding so convincing

like a dog or cat protesting in their cage

and if you fall for any words they are mincing

you might as well join that futile rage.

It's a sheer hate and intolerance game

not even trying to sound sane

with both-sided reasoning so shallow and lame

just focused on opposing without any gain.

I really don't like politics. Mostly because it turns people into vicious monsters. Like Jekyll and Hyde. But your poems I have read lately make me smile. You make the topic tolerable. :)
