I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .
Looking back to their love,
she could remember,
his words always so soft and tender –
like petals upon the wind.
Always there beside her,
laughing like children,
enjoying life –
so very much in love.
As time passed,
the loving words,
like a river that freezes,
in the wintertime –
Looking into smoldering dark eyes,
no brightness there,
the lies kept coming faster –
like petals upon the wind.
One day it all just ended,
leaving her to go on alone,
making her wonder –
where they’d taken the wrong turn.
and silver tears remained,
in the darkest night,
she could still see it all,
hear the words,
that once rang true –
now just petals upon the wind.
It made it harder,
in the summertime,
when she wandered alone,
along the garden paths,
seeing the many roses that bloomed,
remembering him there beside her,
knowing that when the autumn came,
it would also take the beauty of the roses –
scattering their petals upon the wind.

Love is impossible to stop. It comes and it goes. It builds and it grows. Love is so beautiful. Your poem captured the love and the loss. Very deep and emotional. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful poem. Love is all about taking a chance. You can never know how the story will end. Take care.

One of my relatives had a marriage like that. She thought it was lovely and learned it was one big charade. You couldn't make up the stuff that happened to her.

Lovely soft imagery. I could see the "petals upon the wind".
Love can be short sometimes and you wonder if it was just about loving rather than being in love.

Beautifully constructed, haunting poem! That Barbara Streisand song fits perfectly.
