Pendulum

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. I have a wonderful cat named Sid.

Life like the pendulum,

of a clock,

keeps moving back and forth,

as minutes, hours and days,

go rushing by.

While we like marionettes,

walk and dance,

to a rhythm,

moved by an unseen hand.

Our special moments,

always noted,

our days running one into the other.

Perhaps if we stand out from the rest,

put things to the test,

make our dreams,

become reality –

we can be legends in our own time.

To make our lives special,

we must find a purpose,

to live each day,

to take and find,

something that will make us smile,

leaving a memory behind.

So many things.

that can bring,

joy and gladness.

The smile of a child,

the sweet kiss of a love,

the beauty of nature

and the changing of the seasons.

There are these

and many other reasons,

to stop and smell the roses.

Rainbows that fill the sky,

after a refreshing rain,

dark days when the clouds sail away

and the sun comes shining through,

These keep the pendulum swinging,

bringing us through our days,

making them a little gladder,

making our load lighter,

as life marches on

and we along to the rhythm.

Life would be dull without the pendulum, the yin and yang and everything in between.

      Nice sentiment, Rasma!

I liked the image of a pendulum. Sometimes we move forward and at other people Ike's backwards but given our lifespan the clock is always winding down.

I had to read this wonderful poe, Rasma, as Manatita said my own poem "The Journal of My Life" reminded him of this. Yes, we certainly have a common theme. Great job.

A super-excellent and inspirational poem! Rasma, there are so many reasons why you and I should continue to write these kind of poems! At a time when some see only the gloom, life asks us to look at your poem ... to see the beauty ... the excellence ... to remember Love, so necessary at this time of struggle.

I commend you for yet another beauty with a promise of hope and Light.
