On the Brink of Betraying Tears: A Poem

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Laughing on the outside, crying on the inside

colorful like harlequins to hide our gloom

so many of us sit in our corner of life's ringside

with our silent defeat and a secret doom.

If you laugh to tears every time you do

you are close to bursting into a sad sobbing

but laughter is there to hide it all for you

so that no one knows your heart's throbbing.

We learn to cope like heroes of an unseen arena

gladiators against demons of our own make

moving through life graciously like a ballerina

not allowing tears for a sanity sake.

Magicians at playing a disappearing act

we make blank all drama from our face

interacting always with courtesy and tact

with a tattooed furrow line as only betraying trace.

But, what's the real deal with these uncried tears

could our soul give birth to a life all new

with that first liberating cry flooding our ears

cry of a newborn joy overwhelming and true.
