Mother's Day Poem: My Mom is More Than Just a Mother

Luke Holm earned bachelor degrees in English and Philosophy from NIU. He is a middle school teacher and a creative writer.

More Than Just a Mother

My mom is more than just a mother
bearing me, my sis, and brother.
If she had a resume,
it would say she loved all day.

I never heard her once complain
about being drained or feeling pain
because that would mean she’d stopped to breathe
instead of taking care of me.

Her heart is bigger than the sky.
When I think of her, I want to cry.
She gave her time so I may thrive,
brought me life, kept me alive.

My mom is more than just a mother.
Her love’s so deep that it would smother
me when she would come and say
I love you, Luke, in every way.

She read me books and filled my brain
with hopes and dreams she helped me gain.
She taught me how to feel and see
into those who were in need.

She sang me songs and lullabies
of silent nights that pacified
my mind to sleep every night,
which made me feel so very right.

My mom is more than just a mother,
protecting me like no other.
She taught me God and how to pray
away my sins in Christ’s display.

She always helps to end my pain,
helps me sort my strain and bane.
She cared for me and my body,
made me strong and healthy.

When I look into her eyes
I hope that I can memorize
her loving look, a ray of light,
a special sight for all my life.

My mom is more than just a mother,
and this is why I’ll always love her.
