Moments of You

I'd rather keep us in a pretty box
like love letters gathering dust
to be opened and reveled in
from time to time,
the heart soaring and stinging
at the memory of first love

But you’re with me everyday
Uninvited, you will be sitting
at the end of a thought, smiling.
I will catch you in a C major or
a gentle chord, in an accent
or lounging within a phrase
in a book, your eyes playful
You are a sweet sigh
punctuating my days.

Often I'll feel you nearby
I'm back, I'll say at dusk
How was your day, mine was good
I half believe I can hear you,
your words of love and comfort
hello you, the kind evening star
in my room, let me see you

At nights, deliberately
I have conjured you, your scent
from the back of a drawer
I am dreaming you hard
the distance between us yawns
and you slip from your body
your hands unwrapping the dark
to find me waiting for you

These are moments of you
the perfect angle of light
making the colors blush and hum
Moments of you, glorious you
that will measure my coming days
