Joe versus the Gate

I'm a caregiver and an artist. I received high honors in creative writing, fine arts, and sculpture at Montserrat College of Art.

Joe versus the Gate

Every night after work Joe comes home to kick off his shoes and go to bed, but every night that sound keeps him awake. It keeps him up for hours. Clinking and clanging all through the night, make Joe start to think it wants to fight.

Tossing and turning Joe tries to ignore the horrid noise, but its clinking and clanging is too much for him. He thrusts the covers off and jumps out of bed. Running to his window he sees the enemy swing back and forth. It's bent and rusted bars bang against the stone wall in a repetitive way; clink clang, clink clang.

Clink clang, clink clang, clink clang! Banged the old rusty gate…

“Aarrrr…” Joe cried “That’s the sound that I hate…”

Clink clang, clink clang, clink clang!!! It banged again, and again, that dam noise was making his head spin. He started to pace and to think out loud. “I must stop that noise before it drives me insane; it’s spinning my head and breaking my brain.”

“That dam gate, that noise I hate. My sledge and I now have a date.”

So he grabbed his sledgehammer and waved it in the air, while he yelled at the top of his lungs, “Clink Clang if you dare!!!”

Sure enough, it clinked and it clanged once more. Then without hesitation and one mighty roar, he ran down his stairs and right through the door. Yelling in hatred “You’ll Clink and you’ll Clank no more, No MORE!!!”

The Clinging and Clanging stopped that night, and all that was heard was the sledgehammers bite.

This is a funny little poem that i wrote about how the littlest thing can somehow seem to be increadbly annoying. Especially when we are trying to be creative, or sleep.
