Water deep, cold and dim,

I took the deep dive

Found that I couldn’t swim.

Am I still alive?

I took the deep dive,

I wanted to survive.

Found that I couldn’t swim;

Swim and thrive.

I wanted to survive,

Found that I couldn’t swim.

Swim and thrive.

Water deep, cold and dim.

      Thank you for the comments, guys. This poem always hurts me to read, even now.

      Painful write--the loss is palpable

      Love the poem - simple but sad and graphic. Bless you in the loss of your brother and I hope it isn't too long before you can manage to find joy in his memory.

      Beautifully sad, love the style, reminds me of Villanelle? I lost a brother, too. It took me a while to write about it. You've done an excellent job allowing us to feel the painful experience of drowning. Peace be with you, Nikki.
