We Were Chasing Rainbows

When I was just a young boy, my mother did sing to me,

songs of joy, as I'd sing along, I was happy as I could be.

Wake up my little sleepy head, just hop up from that bed,

Sunshine's here to greet you, so just do what I have said.

Refrain:

We were all chasing rainbows, in those days back when,

In our lives it did mean so much, this we knew my friend.

Just to have a chance once more, to start all over again.

Holding on with our hearts, each minute treasured then.

When I was a grown-up lad, my father said to me,

It's up to you son, you can be what you want to be,

Always cared, showed the way, then for me to see,

In my life, gave purpose, strong as an old oak tree.

Refrain:

We were all chasing rainbows, in those days back when,

In our lives it did mean so much, this we knew my friend.

Just to have a chance once more, to start all over again,

holding on with our hearts, each minute treasured then.

When we were grown, true love to find, then to make a life,

Joined in holy matrimony, were every husband and his wife.

Raised a fine family, to follow footprints, made for us to find,

Our upbringings did mean so much, gave us peace of mind.

Refrain:

We were all chasing rainbows, in those days back when,

In our lives it did mean so much, this we knew my friend.

Just to have a chance, once more, to start all over again,

Holding on with our hearts, each minute treasured then.

We'd hold on with all our hearts and never let go again.

Holding on with our hearts, each minute treasured then.
