I Speak for Love Alone

Updated on May 11, 2017
Plant roses on the battlefield And speak for love alone
Plant roses on the battlefield And speak for love alone

I Speak For Love Alone

Enough of empty plans and schemes
May conflict be forgotten
For in this war, to me it seems
That both the sides are rotten

May politics be left to fade
Like etchings on the stone
I climb down from the barricade
And speak for love alone

There is no power held in one
Or a million -- but it's true
That empires can fall before
The power held in two

The patrons who in public preach
Their creeds in private groan
They know their plans can never reach
What love can reach alone

So up, my friend, and sacrifice
Your reason to your wonder
Forgo the philistines' advice
And tear their deeds asunder

There's purer truth to be revealed
Than any sage has shown
Plant roses on the battlefield
And speak for love alone
