His Smile: A Poem

Updated on August 9, 2017

How my heart gladdens

When he laughs.

How my tears disappear

Knowing he is near.

How my mind rests with only his smile.

He is neither mine

Nor will he ever be.

I did not provoke his laughter.

I can not draw him to me

And his smile welcomes another.

Yet, I am content if only he is happy.

I dare not tell of my offered sacrifices

Hoping for him graces I’ve earned,

If only my prayer is heard.

Oh, but if only I heard his laughter….
