Four Hours to Go (Fan Flash Fiction) (the Purge)
Hide or Seek
David checked his gear. He had five rounds in the magazine with one in the chamber, a fragment grenade and a flashbang. He did have his knife, so he had a chance. David killed plenty of men with a knife. He rolled over and checked his wounds bandaging his arm and left shoulder. The bleeding had stopped, but the round was still in his shoulder. David checked the street to see if it was clear. Another gang was picking at the remains of the last gang. This one was dressed in a strange mix of American football gear and gorilla masks. They had AK-47’s and what looked like plenty of ammunition. David had to decide wither to take them on or let them go past. It was four hours before the end of the purge and those four hours would determine if he lived or died.
The leader of the gang took off his helmet than his mask to reveal a pasty white face that was scarred of ancient acne. He had on paint around his eyes to help disguise his race. The group had found one of the other gang still alive and were punching her keeping her on the ground. The leader unzipped his fly and urinated in the woman’s face. She knew her end was near, and she felt that it was right to die on this holiest day. With his fly still open, He aimed at her as something dropped near them. One of the other gorillas picked it up and tossed it at the leader when the grenade went off about three feet away from him in the air. The fragments shredded his manhood and pelted the others with metal and flesh fragments. The woman on the foundation started to laugh. David struck quickly using his last rounds to take down the three closest gang members then he took one of their guns and finished the rest leaving the crying whimpering ape leader and the woman on the ground.
David checked all the weapons taking the ones he knew would last and had the most ammo. As he did this, the woman got up and dragged the ape leader away. Standing, she looked like she was much younger than David had guessed. She stopped for a moment, nodded and smiled. She then dragged the white boy away to a fate that might be worse than having his privates blown off. David went back into the shadows and waited for the night to end.
I left the story a little ambiguous with the motives of David and the unnamed girl left up to the reader.
Did he save her or was that accidental
This is the first of what will be a series of connecting and stand-alone stories based on The Purge.
