What’s In A Story

What’s in a story? Why am I asking you this question. answer is because ever has their own view of what a good story is to them. Every story of course has a beginning, middle and an end. But there is no rule on how long a story has to run.

I started writing flash fiction because it is a challenge to write what can be called a story in 3 words, 20 words, my favorite 99 words or more. All that being said I hope you enjoy this edition of flash fiction stories.

I Am Jesus

Leroy kneeled at the foot of his bed, his hands clasped in prayer. He really didn’t have much to ask for but he felt he still needed to converse with God as much as possible. As he prayed he felt the bed move. He wanted to open his eyes but didn’t want to disrupt his prayers. “It was most likely his wife anyway,” he thought.

After a few more moments of silence he said, “Amen.” He opened his eyes not to find his wife sitting on the bed but a man in white robes and a long beard sitting on his bed.

“What...who…”

“Think a minute Leroy…”

“Jesus...no way…”

“Yes way. I don’t normally answer prayers in person but I figured I would pay you a visit. You are a devout follower of mine but Leroy I must ask you a very personal question. What have you been doing for my Kingdom?”

“Well Jesus, sir, your highness, Lord. I don’t know what to call you. “

“What does your heart seek to call me?”

“Lord…”

“So you say. But again I must ask you what have you been doing for my Kingdom?”

“Well I go to church...I pray...I’m kind to my fellow man…”

Jesus looked at him. “Even those whose heart are cold so that. I’ve called many but not all truly seek to serve me with their full hearts. Let go of what you hold onto and let the Holy Spirit guide you in My service.”

“Lord, I didn’t know…”

“Honey, wake up. You forgot to set your clock again. If you don’t get up now your going to be late for work.”

“Judy you’re not going to believe the dream I just had.”

“What was it this time. Another one of your detective dreams?”

“No, I was praying and Jesus came to me and told me I need to do more for his service.”

“Hum, seems to me it wasn’t really a dream but God calling on you to get up out of your comfortable life and do more..

Faith, Merry and Joy

Faith, Merry and Joy sat at the table in the little cafe and watched the crowd meander in and out. Merry pickled up her sandwich and took a bite. “Pickles make anything better, don’t you think?”

“Merry give it a rest..” She turned towards Joy. “Please explain to me how you got arrested again.”

Joy looked up from her coffee. “What...it wasn’t my fault. You told me to do what I needed to do to protect the girl from harm.”

Faith shook her head. “No, what I told you was that God said to watch over her. I didn’t mean to take down a guy who simply made a pass at her in the bar.”

“Hey I felt she was in trouble…”

“Yeah, well you wait until something happens then you act accordingly but only under the bosses orders. You know what we had to do to clean up this mess?”

“No, but I’m sure you’re going to,tell me.”

“Hey, I’m full does anybody want the rest of my sandwich?”

Faith looked at Merry, “No we don’t want your sandwich.” She looked back at Joy. Remember we angels and we act only when are told to act. The Boss said of you have a problem one more time you may demoted back to watching over the nursery at the hospital. Though if memory serves me correctly the last time you even got in trouble there.”

The Girl In The Office

The plan was to introduce myself to the new girl at work. Somewhere it went wrong. Now I’m running for my life through the woods. Up ahead she stops.

“What?” I said.

“Shh...they’ll hear you.”

I look around. I see nothing but darkness.

“They’re close,” she says.

I don’t remember her name. Suddenly she is up and running again. I get up to follow her but something grabs my leg. I’m kicking and kicking but can’t ease the grip. I look up and see the jaws coming at me. I roll over. Hit the floor. Only a dream.

I awoke dripping wet with sweat, my heart pounding in my chest. Bits and pieces of my nightmare Demon like creatures still lodged in my memory. I had never encountered demon creatures before and was glad the ones in my dream were not real. I got up, took a shower, got and got dressed for work. I locked the door, got in my car and headed to work.I figured I would grab some food and coffee at the Wawa on the way into work.

When I got to work I sat my coffee on the desk and went to look for the new girl. I found her in the employee lounge. She noticed me come through the door. Her eyes opened wide. She jumped up from her seat and walked over to me.
