Dry Begging

I have been writing poetry, fiction and short stories for many years and have completed a book of poems.

Dry Begging
Dry Begging

I am in a bit of a rut and simply can’t find anyway out

“Tell me, tell me what it is and let me see if I can help you out.”

Oh no, I don’t want to burden you with my financial concerns

“Don’t matter that, let’s talk and see if I can make the table turn.”

Well, my rent is overdue and I simply cannot find a job

I am so depressed with my weight, I look like a blob

My car was impounded and the bill is growing

And I was expecting sun and suddenly it started snowing

My mother is suing me for an unpaid loan

Bill collectors keep calling so I unplugged the phone

My fridge broke down and spoiled the box of milk I had inside

Which was the only food I had to keep me alive

“My goodness, you are in more than a rut.”

“You may need Jesus to lift your situation up.”

“I am really sorry to hear all you are going through.”

“But I am not cold hearted, let me see what I can do.”

“Here is five hundred dollars, it’s all I have on me.”

“But tell you what, meet me back here about seven thirty.”

“I will be meeting someone who owes me a large sum of money”

“When I get it I will give you a little more honey.”

“Now listen, I am not giving you this cash free”

“Here is what you can do for me”

“You will have to pay me back when you get a Job”

Thank you kind sir, I never wanted it to seem as though I was dry begging

I will pay you back as soon as I get a job, every dime, every nickel, every shilling

If life is willing

Really good. That old concept of preaching to a man who needs food is empty, came to mind.
