she looks up, catches

motes floating

through slanted light

dancing silent jigs

they fall on eyelash

tangle deep.

tongue extends, hesitant

they taste stale

their stories already told

in silvered light.

balance is everything.

You must have known that I'm working hard to balance my life in general. Is it just me that has a balancing weakness? Your poetry, musical talent and background as a lawyer is so amazing! I've a feeling you have many more talents too!

Jamie Lee Hamann from Reno NV on April 03, 2017:

What a powerful little poem there is so much life behind every word. You have a talent with the lyrical. Jamie

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on April 03, 2017:

Audrey, you never cease to amaze me with your clever poetry! Dancing Motes, who would have ' thunk ' it?

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on April 03, 2017:

Talented beyond belief. Anyone who can take dust motes and make it beautiful deserves a standing ovation. You can't see me now but I'm standing and I'm ovating. :)

Kristen Howe from Northeast Ohio on April 03, 2017:

Audrey...."Balance" IS everything....Life itself is a balancing act. And no one can say this in a more beautiful, profound way as our wonderful poet, Audrey!

No contest--I just realized that I hadn't done a NaPoWriMo in a couple of years--and thought again about much I enjoy the process--every time I try to write 30 pieces in 30 days, I discover new depths and limitations in myself as a writer--thank you DzyMsLizzy!

Liz Elias from Oakley, CA on April 02, 2017:

Oh, that's great! Superb imagery! Is there a contest? I hope you win!

Louise Powles from Norfolk, England on April 02, 2017:
