Call of the Cannibal
Luke Holm earned bachelor degrees in English and Philosophy from NIU. He is a middle school teacher and a creative writer.
Cannibal's Call
Licking lips and beady eyes
pierce the fading light,
focused on their putrid prize,
bringing in the dark of night.
Cannibal's Caul
An inside out esophagus
with a subtle twist of lime
dug up from fresh sarcophagus
means that it’s party time.
Cannibal's Crawl
Creeping from cracks and crevices
cannibals slowly crawl
joining together in genesis
to heed their nature's call.
Cannibal's Gall
More wild beast than modern man
they gleam a jagged tooth
devising fiendish dinner plans
completely devoid of couth.
Canibal's Pall
Rotting flesh and oily scales
spot their broken skin.
If walls could tell their gruesome tales
then they would speak of sin.
Canibal's Cabal
Next time you see an open wound
festering in the light,
remember that there is a human doomed
to salivate at such a sight.
Cannibal's Haul
Expressing the darkness of our minds
that we keep hidden in the shadows,
it is the cannibal who finally finds
meat hanging from the gallows.
