All My Love, Dad

Updated on March 13, 2017

here i am son
kneeling next to your bed
while you sleep
watching your face twitch & grimace
as if you're on the clock
working hard to stay asleep
you're body trying to catch up with rest
so tomorrow you can get lost in play & wonder
you can run to the door & yell my name
when i come in from work
i think of how fast time goes by
& how hard i keep wishing for it to slow down
but it wont freeze, not even for 1 second
the shifting quality of our world
means there are breaks in companionship
attempts at making friends will come & go
don't get discouraged, remain precious
the tears i cry are for what you've overcome
my admiration for you puts all humanity in God's hands
wrap yourself up in my heart, hold my hand
remember to forgive & love

Your message heard loud and clear. This poem makes us all think? So many parents work so hard and odd hours just to provide for their children. So they may have the things we didn't have growing up and more. Great writing and I could read on and on. To me family is everything. Provide, protect and most importantly Love. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read my poem. My family is why I do it everyday. Take care.
