Miranda Hurtado

My story is not one of heroism or greatness. It tells the tale of an Ordinary Girl who, when faced with extraordinary challenges becomes an extraordinary person. At the age of 10, I became blind. The same tumor that caused my blindness also caused short-term memory loss.

I had to relearn three years' worth of grade school knowledge. But that didn't stop me. I was able to graduate from high school. What surprises most people is that I went on to culinary art school, community college, university, and eventually became a teacher. I teach kids who have disabilities just like I do. I love to encourage The Underdogs of this world to do great things. Just like I did.
